🐾 This week’s Patients of the Week are kitty siblings Cleo Patches and Augie!

These one-year-old cuties had very different approaches to their housecall visit. Cleo (the tortie) preferred a little privacy—hiding in the laundry basket before her exam and vaccines, then settling into the bookshelf afterward. Apparently, she wanted to be “checked out” in more ways than one! 📚😸

Augie (the gray tuxedo), meanwhile, was happy to make friends and pose for his photo. 📸

Same family, same age, two very different personalities! Even at home, some kitties are social butterflies while others prefer a cozy hiding spot. We love getting to know each patient on their own terms. ❤️

🐾 Patient of the Week: Rocky (aka Ricky Bobby)! 🐾

Meet Rocky, a 5-year-old French Bulldog who was an absolute superstar for his visit! ❤️

Rocky settled right into his chair and patiently let us do all the things we needed to do — with a little help from his favorite distraction treats, of course.

Peanut butter was already a hit, but then mom shared a little whipped cream from her drink…and Rocky made sure to wear both snacks proudly all over his face. 😂

He was such a good boy for his appointment, and honestly, we think the messy face just added to the charm.

Thanks for being such a sweet patient, Rocky — or should we say Ricky Bobby! 🐾

🐾 Patient of the Week: Dolly! 🐾

Meet Dolly, a 2-year-old Great Pyrenees with beauty, brains… and apparently door-opening skills. 😂

During our visit, Dolly proudly demonstrated one of her special talents: opening the front door all by herself.

Unfortunately, she had already put that skill to use earlier in the week when she let herself—and her two dog sisters—out of the house for a little unscheduled adventure. Thankfully, the lawn maintenance crew spotted the escapees and called Mom to let her know that everyone had decided to take themselves outside. 😳🐶🐶🐶

Dolly was sweet enough to show us exactly how the operation works during her appointment, just in case we doubted her abilities.

We’re pretty sure she considers herself less of an escape artist and more of a self-appointed doorman. ❤️

❤️ **20 YEARS OF AT HOME VETERINARY CARE** ❤️

This month marks a milestone that is hard for me to believe — **20 years ago, I started At Home Veterinary Care.**

The practice began in 2006 as a way for me to continue doing the work I loved as a veterinarian while also being the mom I wanted to be. At the time, our daughters were just 1 and 4 years old…and shortly after I launched the practice, we discovered that daughter #3 was on the way!

What began as a way to balance veterinary medicine and motherhood grew into something I could never have fully imagined.

For the first 6 years, I had the privilege of caring for pets and their families in Florida, and for the past 14 years, I have been fortunate to continue that work here in Virginia.

Over those 20 years, I have been welcomed into so many homes and trusted with so many beloved pets — from puppies and kittens to seniors, from routine wellness visits to acupuncture and pain management, and through some of the most difficult goodbyes a family can face.

It has truly been my honor and privilege to care for your pets in the place they are most comfortable: home.

To every family who has trusted me with a beloved pet, referred a friend, shared a kind word, or supported this little housecall practice along the way — **thank you.** You are the reason At Home Veterinary Care is celebrating 20 years. ❤️🐾

Here’s to the pets we have loved, the families I have been fortunate enough to know, and the years still ahead.

🐾 Patient of the Week: Jack! 🐾

Meet Jack, a very sweet Goldendoodle whose mom noticed that he just wasn’t quite acting like himself. He had stopped jumping onto the bed and into the car, and although nothing seemed dramatically wrong, he simply seemed a little “off.”

Jack had previously experienced some rear-leg limping and was diagnosed with a cruciate tear by his regular veterinarian. He improved enough that his family did not pursue surgery, and he was already receiving a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication and a joint-support supplement to help keep him comfortable.

But his mom was still noticing those subtle changes in his activity. During our exam, Jack was sensitive to palpation along his spine, so we added acupuncture to his existing comfort plan.

Jack was an absolute champ for his first treatment—calm, sweet, and wonderfully tolerant of his needles. ❤️

At his recheck acupuncture visit yesterday, his mom reported that Jack has been running more and seems much happier! Those are exactly the kinds of changes we love to hear about.

Medications and joint-support products can be very helpful, and acupuncture can be another tool we use alongside them to help support comfort, mobility, and quality of life. Sometimes a multimodal approach helps us give our patients that little bit of extra support they need. 🐾

🐾 Patient of the Week: Barkley! 🐾

Meet Barkley, whose recent veterinary visit came with a pretty great perk: he didn’t even have to leave doggy daycare! ❤️

We caught up with this handsome guy while he was spending the day at Point of Rocks Retrievers, a local boarding and daycare facility owned by one of our clients.

And when Barkley needed a little distraction during his visit, we quickly discovered his treat of choice: popcorn! 🍿😂 Apparently the best way to enjoy it is to save a few pieces in your beard for later.

One of the conveniences of house-call veterinary care is that, when arrangements allow, we can sometimes see pets while they’re staying at Point of Rocks Retrievers—one less appointment to fit into an already busy schedule!

Thanks for being such a good patient, Barkley. And may your beard always have snacks in it. 🐾🍿
