🏆 We have some exciting news—Bay Area Veterinary Hospital was voted Friendliest Vet Office in the 2026 Golden Anchor Awards!

And in an honor that is both incredibly humbling and very special to me, I was also voted Best Boss and Favorite Business Owner. ❤️

“Friendliest Vet Office” may have our hospital’s name on it, but this award belongs entirely to our wonderful team. They are the people who greet you with a smile, comfort nervous pets, celebrate the happy moments, support families through the difficult ones, and work incredibly hard for our patients every day.

Being named Best Boss means so much because I genuinely believe that the people beside me are what make BAVH the practice it is. I am incredibly proud of this team and deeply grateful that they choose to be part of it.

Did you know this week is Deaf Pet Awareness Week? 🐾✨

Living with a deaf or hard-of-hearing pet can be just as rewarding as living with any other furry friend, but noticing changes in your pet's response to sounds is key to their comfort and health.

Did you know that sudden hearing loss or selective hearing isn't always permanent or age-related? Chronic ear infections, deep wax buildup, and inflammation can actually mimic hearing loss! 👂🚨

When the ear canal becomes swollen, infected, or blocked with debris, sound waves simply can't reach the eardrum properly—making it seem like your pet has suddenly gone deaf. The great news? Once the underlying infection or blockage is treated, their hearing often returns!

Since September is Happy Healthy Cat Month, we’re sharing a quick, simple check you can do at home to make sure your feline friend stays properly hydrated!

How to Check for Dehydration at Home:
🤏 The "Skin Tent" Test: Gently pinch the loose skin at the base of your cat's neck or between their shoulder blades and let go. In a well-hydrated cat, the skin snaps back into place immediately. If it returns slowly or stays tented up, your cat may be dehydrated!
🦷 Check Their Gums: Gently lift your cat’s lip. Healthy gums should feel moist and pink. If they feel tacky, dry, or sticky, it’s a sign they need more fluids.
🐾 Watch for Behavioral Shifts: Lethargy, sunken eyes, a dry nose, or a sudden loss of appetite can also signal dehydration.

Quick Tip to Boost Water Intake:
Cats often prefer running water! Try adding a cat water fountain, offering wet food, or adding a splash of tuna juice (unsalted) to their water bowl to encourage extra drinking. 🍲✨

⚽️ Kicking off the season with the Blue Dragons! 🐉💙

Opening Day for QAC Soccer Club is officially here! Bay Area Veterinary Hospital is proud to sponsor local QAC Soccer teams this season — and Dr. Wilds is getting in on the action as team manager for the Church Hill Blue Dragons!

We spend most of our days cheering on four-legged athletes, but this season we’re pretty excited to cheer for the two-legged kind, too. 😉

And we have to admit… seeing BAY AREA VETERINARY HOSPITAL running around the soccer field looks pretty good!

Today marks 25 years since September 11, 2001—a day of remembrance, reflection, and honoring the countless heroes who risked everything for others. 🇺🇸🕊️

As we mark National Service Dog Month this September, we hold a special place in our hearts for the more than 300 Search and Rescue (SAR), police, and therapy dogs deployed to Ground Zero, the Pentagon, and Shanksville.

These working canines climbed shifting rubble, worked grueling shifts alongside their human handlers, and provided vital comfort to first responders. From detection dogs working tirelessly in the debris to therapy dogs offering a moment of peace to weary workers, these four-legged heroes embodied selflessness and resilience.

Today, we honor the lives lost, express our gratitude to all first responders, and remember the extraordinary service dogs who helped light the way through our darkest hours. 💙🐾
