Warm Weather Reminder!

Please do not leave your dog in a parked car in warm temps. If you are hot in a closed up car so is your pet!
I encountered this scenario today at a local grocery store - a stressed, panting dog in a car with 2 windows cracked so I called the police.
The owner did return to the car and became defensive when it was brought to his attention. Hopefully, he will be more aware of how dangerous this truly is.

While these videos looks innocent, it wasn't always smooth sailing between these two pups. Bringing home a new puppy isn't always easy when your current dog has lost a longtime companion. Grief, adjustment and new beginnings all happen at the same time. Animals feel and react to loss, and the way it presents itself varies. For this dog, it was isolation, grumpiness and unwelcoming behavior towards the puppy.

Today, we were happy to see positive involvement unfolding. Closely watching the interactions between these two revealed the budding of acceptance. The older dog modified his play to accommodate the puppy.

A step at a time.....A new puppy doesn't replace the companion lost, but with time and patience a new friendship can grow.

Gilly, a 20-month-old toy poodle, is a delightful pet. However, do not be fooled by his innocent appearance! He is highly intelligent and uses demanding behaviors to manipulate his people. Our customized training plan will utilize consistent behavioral training and reinforcement to address attention-seeking and demanding behaviors.

The heat is on in sunny Southwest Florida so we are practicing leash walking skills and creating positive experiences at an offsite location. Nice job! 😎🌴😃

There are many reasons dogs pull on leash. Our client has been working on leash walking skills in familiar settings and is doing beautifully. In a brand new environment that can change. Anxiety and uncertainty cause this dog to move ahead of his person. What to do? Stop, stand still, remain quiet and let your dog process his surroundings. Note when finished, he looks for guidance, checks in and returns back to his side (he's learning it's the best place to be!). The walk resumes. Well done!

After years with older dogs you get used to a certain rhythm…..calm, predictable. Now, Mochi has arrived! He is the cutest and a joy to his new family, yet has brought some chaos as well. He’s a long-haired Chihuahua rescued all the way from Texas. His person required guidance with adjusting to life with a puppy’s behaviors and the relationship between him and their older dog. Impulse control…. We can’t say enough about its importance. The “wait cue” tells your dog to pause and hold a position temporarily. Permission to move forward is granted by using a release word. It teaches emotional self control and ensures safety and manners. The benefits are numerous! Our client had a successful day working on steps at an offsite location. Well done 🙂
