Hmmm…..I’m not so sure of the outside environment and the encounters with other dogs and people it may bring. This is what Cait communicated to us when we first met her. She lacks confidence and has anxiety that leads to reactivity. She’d watch from the doorway and be cautious and hesitant leaving her indoor safe space. Our goal with Cait is to:
- Build trust.
- Build confidence.
- Create positive associations through counterconditioning.
- Reward calm, confident choices.

After each session, we happily notice a little more confidence and her attitude changing about new areas and her curiosity surpassing anxiety.
Her training is a gradual, step by step process that moves at her pace. Every step forward is a victory! We will continue to build on her successes with the outcome of a happier, more confident dog.

Is your once friendly 8 month old puppy suddenly barking, lunging or acting unsure around people or other dogs? This is not uncommon. We were called on to work with Finn, an 8 month old Australian Labradoodle that began to react towards dogs and people. He is in the adolescent stage when lots of developmental changes are occurring and fear stages can suddenly pop up. This can lead to increased sensitivity to their surroundings. This quiet park was a great place to begin working at his pace to and build on new, positive associations with his triggers. Patience, consistency and positive reinforcement will go a long way in helping Finn to gain confidence and grow into a well-adjusted dog. ❤️🐕‍🦺

Vacation Swimming Safety: Why Every Dog Should Wear a Harness and Long Line

Summer vacations are a wonderful time to spend quality time with your dog. Swimming is one of the best forms of exercise for dogs of all ages. Whether you're at the lake, beach, or pool, take the time to prepare for safe swimming practices around water.

One of the best pieces of equipment you can use around water is a **well-fitted harness attached to a long line**

A gentle leader is a head halter used as a training tool to guide a dog’s head rather than pulling against their neck or body. It can take a dog a little time to grow accustomed to it, so it should be introduced and conditioned gradually. When used properly, it makes a huge difference in a dog’s behavior on leash - a game changer!

Wishing everyone a Happy 4th of July!

It’s a time of celebration, but not so much for many pets.

Here are a few tips to help reduce your dog’s anxiety:

C*D oil can help ease anxiety. Ellevet is one of our favorite brands.

Keeping the volume up on the tv may help quiet the sounds.

Thunder shirts can also help some dogs.

Keeping a bowl of treats nearby and tossing treats in the air for every boom can help your dog change their association of the sounds from scary to rewarding!

Take care to keep your dog safe inside so they don’t bolt and become lost.
