Sibling dogs - the ultimate "love hate" relationship! Just like human siblings they can be best friends one minute and then suddenly a little squabble erupts. This type of relationship is common with sibling dogs. Remy and Gus are 2 year old male Boston Terrier siblings who recently started sharing the same home. Although these two enjoy each other's company, their different personalities and now mature age has contributed to creating challenges for both dogs. Remy since the arrival of Gus and his person, demonstrates defensive behavioral changes and feels threatened by sharing his resources including his people, his territory and chew sticks. Gus is experiencing a new environment and is adjusting. It is important to address each dog's feelings and respect the order of primacy that has been established. Our goal is to have each dog succeed - together and as individuals. Through training, management and respect for each dog, we will help turn the sibling "love - hate" relationship into a healthier, more harmonious one.

Let them observe. Let them process. Let them check in.

When your dog encounters an unfamiliar sight or sound, give them time to observe, process and figure it out before getting involved. Then wait for them to check in. with you. The moment of connection is an important part of communication.

When you allow your dog to process and reinforce their voluntary check-in, it builds confidence, trust and communication. This is especially true for cautious, easily overwhelmed dogs.

Rather than telling your dog what to do, teach them they can observe, process and connect with you. It can make all the difference!

It’s not always easy introducing a new puppy to an older dog. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it isn’t the best fit and the dogs might not be compatible. We gave it our all and so did this wonderful family! The end result - happy pups and a happy family!

Want to help your dog build confidence? Let them use their nose! Nose work stations give dogs the opportunity to search, explore, problem solve and make independent choices. It’s especially beneficial for cautious or easily overwhelmed dogs, giving them a fun, low-pressure way to build confidence at their own pace. It teaches them “I can do this”! The excitement builds as the pups anticipate the trainer’s arrival. They are learning emotional self-control and know a good sit and calm behavior earns the reward! With patience and consistent training, they make good choices and respond appropriately, even when they are excited, distracted or tempted. Impulse control is an important foundation skill that builds better manners, focus, self-control and confidence. Nice progress - Love these two!

Hmmm…..I’m not so sure of the outside environment and the encounters with other dogs and people it may bring. This is what Cait communicated to us when we first met her. She lacks confidence and has anxiety that leads to reactivity. She’d watch from the doorway and be cautious and hesitant leaving her indoor safe space. Our goal with Cait is to:
- Build trust.
- Build confidence.
- Create positive associations through counterconditioning.
- Reward calm, confident choices.

After each session, we happily notice a little more confidence and her attitude changing about new areas and her curiosity surpassing anxiety.
Her training is a gradual, step by step process that moves at her pace. Every step forward is a victory! We will continue to build on her successes with the outcome of a happier, more confident dog.
