๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’› FRIDAY FACT ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿพ

Did you know that many lost dog cases could be prevented with proper leash and equipment safety?

One of the most common ways dogs go missing is by slipping out of a collar, backing out of a harness, or getting loose during a walk. This is especially true for newly adopted dogs and dogs that are naturally shy or fearful.

When a dog is in a new environment, they are often overwhelmed, unsure of their surroundings, and more likely to panic if startled. A sudden noise, unfamiliar person, or unexpected situation can cause a dog to bolt in seconds.

That's why CT Dog Gone Recovery strongly recommends using a properly fitted martingale collar and/or a slip lead harness system. For skittish dogs and newly adopted dogs, we recommend using BOTH whenever possible.

Double-leashing provides an extra layer of protection if one piece of equipment fails or slips off. It only takes a moment for a frightened dog to escape, but it can take days, weeks, or even months to recover them.

โœ”๏ธ Use a properly fitted martingale collarโœ”๏ธ Use a secure harnessโœ”๏ธ Double leash newly adopted or nervous dogsโœ”๏ธ Always keep your dog leashed when outsideโœ”๏ธ Check all equipment regularly for wear and proper fit

A little extra precaution today can prevent a heartbreaking lost dog situation tomorrow.

๐Ÿ• Keeping dogs safe is always worth the extra step.

๐ŸŽ‡Here is a list of some of the Fireworks in CT starting this weekend ๐ŸŽ†

๐ŸŽ† Fireworks season is starting across Connecticut, and while we may enjoy the celebrations, many dogs do not.

CT Dog Gone Recovery wants to remind everyone to please keep your dogs SAFE during fireworks season. Loud noises can cause even the calmest dogs to panic and run.

๐Ÿพ Keep dogs INSIDE during fireworks๐Ÿพ Create a quiet, safe space for them at home๐Ÿพ Keep windows, doors, and gates secure๐Ÿพ Walk dogs BEFORE fireworks begin๐Ÿพ If outside, ALWAYS keep dogs leashed๐Ÿพ Never assume your dog โ€œwonโ€™t runโ€๐Ÿพ Make sure collars, tags, and microchip information are up to date

Sadly, every year many dogs go missing after being startled by fireworks. A few extra precautions can save lives and prevent heartbreak.

Please help us spread awareness and keep Connecticut dogs safe this summer. โค๏ธ๐Ÿถ

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Memorial Day Safety for Dogs ๐Ÿพ

CT Dog Gone Recovery

Memorial Day weekend is full of cookouts, travel, parades, fireworks, and visitors โ€” but all of that excitement can be overwhelming and risky for dogs.

Keep Your Dog Safe This Weekend

๐Ÿพ Keep dogs leashed and secure
Even friendly, well-trained dogs can get spooked by crowds, loud noises, or fireworks.

๐Ÿพ Do not bring dogs to fireworks displays
The noise, crowds, and flashing lights can cause panic and increase the risk of a dog bolting.

๐Ÿพ Create a safe indoor space
Keep your dog inside during fireworks with windows closed, shades drawn, and calming music or white noise playing.

๐Ÿพ Make sure ID is current
Check that your dog is wearing a collar with ID tags and that microchip information is up to date.

๐Ÿพ Watch doors and gates
With guests coming and going, dogs can slip out quickly. Assign someone to keep an eye on entrances.

๐Ÿพ Keep cookout foods away from dogs
Avoid giving dogs bones, corn cobs, alcohol, chocolate, grapes, onions, or anything greasy.

๐Ÿพ Never leave dogs unattended outside
A fenced yard is not always secure, especially if fireworks or loud noises start unexpectedly.

๐Ÿพ Have a recent photo ready
If your dog goes missing, a clear, current photo will help with flyers and social media posts.

If Your Dog Goes Missing

Do not chase.
Call animal control and local police.
Post clear photos and location details.
Reach out for help right away.

Have a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend!

โš ๏ธ Thunderstorm Warning โš ๏ธ

We are expecting thunderstorms and high winds in our area. Please be prepared and keep your dogs inside and safe.

After the storm passes, please check your fence for damage, loose gates, fallen branches, or new gaps before letting your dog back outside.

A few extra minutes of caution can prevent a dog from getting lost.
