Freak On A Leash, LLC Transforming canine behavior one paw at a time! 🐾 Certified trainers focused on positive reinforcement.

From playful pups to polite adults, we help your dog unleash their best self! 🐕 Training, love, and wagging tails. 😊 If you are looking for an efficient and productive dog trainer in Virginia Beach, don't look further. You can tell my german heritage not only by my cute accent but also my punctuality and my organisation skills. You will not find a more dedicated or compassionate trainer to help you. I want you and your dog to live happy together and I'm confident that we can achive this goal together. Force free training is about the animal choosing to want to be part of it and enjoy the training process. Just because dogs are amazing creatures and will let you do things to them without reacting badly doesn't mean we should. If you can train crocodiles, dolphines and wolves with rewards why would you want to use painful devices on your best friend?

One day your dog knows how to sit, stay, come when called...
And the next, you’re pretty sure they’ve forgotten EVERYTHING.

Welcome to adolescence! Suddenly, the world is way more interesting, distractions are harder to ignore, and those skills you’ve been working on? Well, let’s just say your dog has some opinions about whether they feel like using them today.

It can be frustrating, but your teenage dog isn’t a lost cause! They still need practice, patience, consistency, and a little help learning how to make good choices when things get exciting.

And no, you don’t have to just wait for them to grow out of it!

Our Teenage Tyrants class is here to help you navigate this stage, keep building those important skills, and work toward the adult dog you want to live with.

Got a teenage dog who’s keeping you on your toes? We’ve got a class for that! Check out Teenage Tyrants at Freak on a Leash and come train with us! We’ve got class options on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Go to our website to learn more and get started.

Whether you’re coming from Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Norfolk, or across the North Carolina line, we’d love to have you train with us!

Our next CGC class starts Sat, Nov 7th at 1:30pm and runs 6 weeks. Comment CGC for the link to sign up!

You signed up for puppy class to teach your puppy a few basic cues... and quickly discovered there’s a LOT more to raising a dog.

We’re talking attention, confidence, learning to focus around distractions, polite greetings, handling, and all those little skills that make everyday life with your dog easier.

Because raising a puppy isn’t just about teaching them what to do. It’s about helping them learn how to navigate the world around them, too!

And the best part? You don’t have to figure it all out on your own!

🐾 Got a puppy at home? Check out our Great Start Puppy and Level Up Puppy classes. DM us if you need help figuring out which one is right for your pup.

A wagging tail doesn’t always mean a happy dog!

We tend to see a wagging tail and assume a dog is friendly, excited, or wants to say hi. But dogs wag their tails for lots of different reasons, and that tail is just one piece of the puzzle.

Pay attention to the whole dog! Are their muscles loose or stiff? Are they approaching willingly or trying to move away? Are they relaxed, or do they seem tense and uncomfortable?

And remember, a dog can be uncomfortable even if their tail is wagging.

Learning to recognize the little signs of how your dog is feeling can help you make better decisions for them and keep interactions safer for everyone. 💜

Just because a place welcomes dogs doesn’t mean your dog automatically knows how to handle being there.

A busy patio, a crowded sidewalk, or a walk past another dog can be a LOT to navigate when you’re still learning how to walk together, check in around distractions, or settle when there’s exciting stuff happening.

And that’s okay! These are skills we can teach and practice.

The trick is giving your dog opportunities to learn in a setup where they can succeed, then gradually making things more challenging as they get the hang of it.

That’s what we’ll be working on in our new Out and About: Manners for Real Life Adventures class with Karissa Triveri.

We’ll practice loose-leash walking, check-ins, polite pass-bys, settling, recall, and more at our facility, building skills you can work toward using on your everyday adventures.

A few skills can make taking them places SO much more enjoyable.

We’re talking about walks without constant pulling, checking in with you when something catches their eye, passing other dogs without needing to say hello, relaxing while you grab a bite to eat, and coming back when you call.

These things take practice, especially when the world is full of exciting stuff!

Our new Out and About: Manners for Real Life Adventures class with Karissa Triveri is designed to help you build these skills and practice around gradually increasing distractions.

That nice, easy walk where your dog passes something interesting on the ground without dragging you over to investigate? It takes practice!

We can’t expect our dogs to make great choices around all the exciting stuff out in the world if they haven’t had a chance to practice those skills first.

That’s why we work on loose-leash walking, check-ins, and responding to cues around distractions in a training environment before gradually making things harder.

Want to work toward easier walks and more enjoyable adventures with your dog? Our new Out and About: Manners for Real Life Adventures class is a great place to start!

This new class starts Sun, Oct 18th at 1:30pm and runs for 5 weeks. Send us a DM to grab your spot!

NEW CLASS ALERT! 👀🐾

Meet Out and About: Manners for Real Life Adventures, a brand-new class with Karissa Triveri!

We all want to enjoy taking our dogs places, but that gets a whole lot harder when you’re being dragged down the sidewalk, your dog can’t stop watching everything around them, or settling down feels impossible.

In this 5-class series, we’ll work on the skills that help make those adventures more enjoyable, including loose-leash walking, checking in with you around distractions, polite greetings and pass-bys, settling, recall, and building confidence.

We’ll practice at the facility, gradually adding challenges to help you and your dog build these skills together.

Huge congratulations to Duke, Obi, Winx, Chance and their people on earning their CGCA yesterday! 🙌🏻🥳

These teams worked hard through their 4 week prep class with us on exercises like walking past food, recalling past a distraction, waiting to go through a doorway, a group sit stay, and more!

Give them some love in the comments 💜🥳
