🐾 New Protection for Pets in Florida

Florida has passed a law making it a third-degree felony to abandon a restrained dog during a declared state of emergency. Violators face up to five years in prison and fines up to $10,000.

The legislation was inspired by Trooper, a bull terrier found chained on I-75 as floodwaters rose. Thanks to public outrage and advocacy, Trooper now has a safe home—and future pets in emergencies will have stronger legal protection.
