We all know it’s not safe to take an unvaccinated puppy out and walk them in high-traffic areas, but not taking them out at all can actually mean missing one of the most important developmental windows in your puppy’s life.

The critical socialization period occurs between about 3 and 16 weeks of age. During this time, puppies are learning what is safe, normal, and nothing to worry about. Positive experiences now help build confident, resilient adult dogs.

The key word is SAFE socialization 🐾

Socialization doesn’t mean letting your puppy greet every dog they see or taking them to a busy dog park. In fact, I recommend avoiding dog parks altogether, ESPECIALLY for young puppies.

Instead, focus on exposing your puppy to the world in safe, controlled ways:
• Watch people, bicycles, shopping carts, and strollers from a distance.
• Visit pet-friendly stores that allow puppies to ride in the cart.
• Invite healthy, vaccinated, dog-friendly dogs you know over for playdates.
• Take car rides to new places.
• Walk on different surfaces like grass, gravel, wood, sand, and concrete.
• Hear everyday sounds like lawn mowers, thunder, vacuums, and traffic.
• Meet people of different ages, appearances, and mobility levels.
• Practice handling their paws, ears, mouth, and tail while pairing it with treats.

Remember: Socialization is about creating positive experiences, not overwhelming your puppy. Let them observe at their own pace, reward curiosity, and never force interactions.

The goal isn’t to meet 100 dogs—it’s to raise a puppy who can confidently navigate the world.

A few weeks of thoughtful, safe socialization can make a lifetime of difference. ❤️🐶

We’re so excited to finally introduce the little girl we’re keeping from the Dixie x Scout litter..

Meet, Cuda! 🎣

Registered as “Dixie Creek’s Cuda Fooled Me” - her call name honors some incredible dogs in her pedigree, while her registered name is a tribute to her mama, Dixie.

From the very beginning, she reminded us so much of Dixie that you “could’ve fooled us”.

We hoped and dreamed of this litter for the last couple of years… We have big dreams for little Cuda and we’re excited to see all of the great things she will accomplish.
