To all our friends coming to hunt dove, be sure you have water, plenty of bird shot shells, 7.5 or 8 work well, please no 6 or heavier. Be sure you have completed your migratory bird certification (hip), available free of charge at the state licensing website. If you are shooting an auto loader, remember you are limited by law to three shells (one in the breach and two in the magazine maximum—check for your plug). Eye protection for everyone is strongly advised!

Get your Hip certification and shells now; opening day is September 5.

In addition to the sunflowers, Rock Haven has fields planted with corn, Milo, and four varieties of millet which feed and attract birds on the 130 acres. With opening day dove season getting closer, it is time to assemble your hunting party and book your hunt. Last year we welcomed a large group who booked a field to hunt together with friends and family. This worked out so we’d like to encourage the practice.
