Every inch of a van build has to pull double duty… especially when your battery bank takes up this much space! 🔋🚐
The WAK-9 Waggin’ has three 314Ah SOK lithium batteries, giving us a massive 942 amp-hours of capacity. Because of their size… and because lithium batteries make me cautious… I had a local fabricator build a custom steel enclosure around them.
Why SOK, and why the box?
1️⃣ SOK batteries have a built-in fire-suppression system inside their sealed units. While LiFePO₄ is considered one of the safer lithium chemistries, fire safety is still something I refuse to take lightly.
2️⃣ The custom enclosure creates an additional protective barrier around the entire battery bank. It keeps the batteries secured and separated from dogs, equipment, and everything else traveling inside the van.
3️⃣ It gives the space another purpose! The top of the enclosure creates a strong platform and shelf, allowing me to use the area directly above the batteries. When needed, it can even serve as another kennel platform.
The enclosure is only one part of the safety system. Proper fusing, disconnects, protected wiring, temperature management, and battery monitoring are just as important.
942 amp-hours takes up some serious real estate… but now that space is protected, secured, and working twice as hard! 🐾
