🐾 Welcome Jake to WAK-9 Training! 🐾
Jake, a handsome 1.5-year-old Black Lab, has joined us for a 1-week Board & Train program... although we have a feeling he may decide to stay a little longer! 😄
Jake is coming to us to build more refined obedience, improve communication, and develop the manners that help make life easier and more enjoyable for both dog and owner. Sometimes the biggest improvements don't come from teaching something brand new—they come from creating clarity and consistency in what the dog already knows.
One of our major focuses with Jake will be e-collar conditioning.
This is a topic that often comes with a lot of questions, misconceptions, and unfortunately, a lot of misinformation. Before Jake ever arrived, his owner and I spent nearly three hours discussing how we use the e-collar, what it means, and what it doesn't mean.
At WAK-9, the e-collar is first and foremost a communication tool.
We don't view it as a correction device. We view it as touch.
The same way a leash applies physical pressure, or a hand can tap someone on the shoulder to get their attention, the e-collar allows us to communicate with the dog at a distance. It becomes a language the dog understands, creating clarity, consistency, and confidence.
When properly conditioned, the e-collar isn't about punishment—it's about communication.
We're excited to spend the next week working with Jake and showing his family how clear communication can strengthen the relationship between dog and handler.
