Happy World Environment Day! And I didn’t think it could get any better than DONUTS!!!

Maybe get out there and plant a tree today, with a dog, and with a donut!! 😱😱

Pick up some trash whilst eating a donut with your dog…

The list can be endless. Any way you can think of to give back to the planet is an awesome way to end donut day and help our environment.

What a day, what a combo!! And all great ways to get out with your dog today!!

What’s your excuse? Picking up trash, eating a donut, and playing with your dog!! It can be done! 😆❤️

In all seriousness, our earth really does need our help, so anything you can do today to improve life is greatly appreciated by all.

Happy National Donut Day! While traditional human donuts are not safe for dogs, many pet shops create safe “doggie donut” recipes. Many pet shops also have delightful baked dog treats available for sale. We love Mud Bay, as they have a great selection of doggy treats.

Many dog boutiques also have dog safe ice cream and other sweet treats.

So go out there and enjoy National Donut Day and get yourself a (human) donut and your dog a delicious pet safe treat at your local pet store or boutique!

Why we do doggy daycare a little bit differently:

-Not all dogs like other dogs, and we respect that. I think most of us can agree there are just some other people we don’t get along with (and that’s also okay, just throwing that out there).

-Dogs can get a bit crazy if overstimulated, just like a kid!

-Some dogs like to rule the roost, and other want to sit back and chill.

None of these behaviors are inherently “wrong”. But leaving them unchecked is a recipe for disaster.

Our team is trained to recognize unwanted behavior well before anyone blows up at one another.

Because not every dog needs to be social. And let’s be real- not every dog needs to go to doggy daycare.

It’s a construct of the human mind that dogs need what we do. And in some cases, yes. But in many, no.

Doggy daycare is a luxury, not a must. Good training is often the key to success at home, and proper socialization elsewhere with friends or family is often times better than the “free for all” that is allowed in most doggy daycares.

So, to doggy daycare or not? That is the question. Your choice. It’s not a critical need, but it can be fun if done correctly. And it can be an absolute nightmare if done wrong.

We respect that some don’t do it how we do, and that’s fine. But make sure if your answer is yes to doing doggy daycare, you have your ducks in a row and you’ve done the research. If it’s the best fit for you and your dog, then we’re all for it. While we won’t recommend most doggy daycares to clients, we also won’t dog it (like the play on words? 😆😎) if you don’t choose us.

Cuz we don’t play that game. If you’re our client or not, we want what’s best for you and your dog. And if that’s not us? That’s okay too. We’ll be right there to support you.

At WAK-9, we manage and care for dogs of all walks of life.

This beautiful soul is blind, and boy is he the bestest boi on the block!

Our favorite dogs to care for are those with special needs. We have cared for dogs of all needs and can administer medications too. Dogs like this Adorabibs guy spend a lot of one on one time with us, and we do our best to change the environment to best suit their needs.

We can’t always make exceptions if we have a full house, but most of the time we can. This sweet man has lived inside with us for most of his time here rather than sleeping in a crate. Because, um, cuteness!! He’s also extremely sweet.

We will miss him when he goes home, but in the meantime his owners can rest assured he’s well loved in his temporary home away from home. ❤️❤️

🐾 Welcome Jax to WAK-9 Training! 🐾

Jax is joining us for a 3-week Board & Train program, and we're excited to continue the progress he's already made! Once we announced the open board n train… the owners hopped on to the schedule without hesitation!

At just 1.5 years old, Jax has developed some less-than-ideal reactions toward other dogs while out on walks. The good news? His owners have been putting in the work. After about two months of private lessons, Jax has already made incredible strides from where he started. This Board & Train is designed to build on that foundation and help prepare him for more enjoyable outings, adventures, and vacations with his family.

Over the next three weeks, we'll be refining his e-collar communication and continuing to work on his social skills. Jax doesn't necessarily want to make friends with every dog he sees—he wants to control the situation. Our goal is to help him learn that he doesn't need to manage his environment and that he can trust his handler to make those decisions for him.

We'll also be spending time on cooperative care. Jax can be slow to warm up to new people, so we'll be working on helping him become more comfortable with veterinarians, groomers, trainers, and other individuals who may need to handle him throughout his life. Building trust, confidence, and clear communication will be key components of his program.

Jax is a smart dog with a lot of potential, and we're looking forward to helping him continue down the path toward becoming a confident, reliable companion.

Stay tuned for updates on his journey over the next three weeks! 🐕💚

🐾 Welcome Jake to WAK-9 Training! 🐾

Jake, a handsome 1.5-year-old Black Lab, has joined us for a 1-week Board & Train program... although we have a feeling he may decide to stay a little longer! 😄

Jake is coming to us to build more refined obedience, improve communication, and develop the manners that help make life easier and more enjoyable for both dog and owner. Sometimes the biggest improvements don't come from teaching something brand new—they come from creating clarity and consistency in what the dog already knows.

One of our major focuses with Jake will be e-collar conditioning.

This is a topic that often comes with a lot of questions, misconceptions, and unfortunately, a lot of misinformation. Before Jake ever arrived, his owner and I spent nearly three hours discussing how we use the e-collar, what it means, and what it doesn't mean.

At WAK-9, the e-collar is first and foremost a communication tool.

We don't view it as a correction device. We view it as touch.

The same way a leash applies physical pressure, or a hand can tap someone on the shoulder to get their attention, the e-collar allows us to communicate with the dog at a distance. It becomes a language the dog understands, creating clarity, consistency, and confidence.

When properly conditioned, the e-collar isn't about punishment—it's about communication.

We're excited to spend the next week working with Jake and showing his family how clear communication can strengthen the relationship between dog and handler.
