Our team is available to give high quality services to all pet families. At Blackhawk Veterinary Hospital, a Cheney veterinarian and animal hospital, we understand the special bond you share with your pet. After all, we are pet parents ourselves. That’s why connecting with you and your four legged friend comes so naturally to us. We know what it’s like to open your home and your heart

to a precious critter, embracing that little one as more than just a pet, but as an integral part of the family. It is this human-animal bond – this special relationship you share with your four legged family member – that inspires us and drives us to go above and beyond in what we do.

Have a nervous pet at home? Call us if you need support: (509) 235-2020

Otherwise, here are a few tips that may help:
Keep your pets indoors or on leash through the holiday
Confine your pet to a smaller room or kennel and play quiet music during fireworks
Keep an eye out for overheating or overexercising with all the festivities and fun
Update your pet's microchip information and ID tags before the fun begins

Did you know leptospirosis is zoonotic? That means it can impact our dogs' health AND ours too!

Over the last year, there have been at least 3 confirmed cases in our area. See below to learn more and call our office to schedule vaccine appointments for your dogs soon if they are not already up to date!

What is leptospirosis? Leptospirosis is a disease caused by spiral-shaped bacteria called leptospires. It can affect people as well as many wild and domestic animals, including dogs. The bacteria thrive in moist environments and in water. It can be spread through the urine of infected animals.

We know how much your feline family members mean to you, and we also know even the most indoor-loving cats can be sneaky escape artists. 🐱💙

Whether your cat spends time indoors or outdoors, a microchip provides a permanent form of identification if they ever go missing. Since collars can fall off and cats are often mistaken for strays, microchips can play an important role in helping lost pets make it back home. If your cat isn’t microchipped yet, our team would be happy to help.

Meet Chief - official pet of the month!

Have you heard the saying: "Every horse deserves to be loved by a girl."?
Chief is a handsome bay roan grade gelding owned by one of our fabulous staff and is most definitely loved by his girl. After a multifaceted career, he has earned the incredible retirement he is getting!

Chief is an older gentleman who yearns for the simple things in life: good rolls in the dirt, carrots, green grass, alfalfa, and treats paired with easy walks through the barnyard. While he is gentle and kind, he can be a curmudgen if his owner's plans differ from his own.

This gelding is a special soul, one that has made a lifelong dream come true and is doing an excellent job of providing introductory horsemanship lessons for his family.

Chief is a wonderful horse and we are so glad to call him a member of the Blackhawk Family.
