Best visual representation of a fascial adhesion I’ve seen yet. Wow. 10/10.

We are super intrigued sometimes by what information seems to be of more interest to you guys than others. With a couple more dissections coming up to round off the season, is there any part of the equine anatomy in particular you would like to see more of? Let us know in the comments 👌👌

To answer multiple questions at once, this lung adhesion was most likely from an historical respiratory infection (as advised by our veterinarian).

Have you ever walked out to your horses pasture or brought them in for the night a noticed there is now a new “dent” in their body?!
🙋🏼‍♀️ Haven’t we all!

When the horses body receives blunt force trauma, (kick/bite/slip) the fascia in the surrounding area will densify in order to protect the muscle and structures near it. Fascia is incredibly strong, up to 2000 lbs tensile strength. When exposed to trauma, healthy/elastic fascia crystallizes and hardens which in turn restricts the movement of the body allowing the muscle (in this case) to heal beneath it.

Once the muscle has healed and is “touch tolerant” I highly suggest having me come out to help your horse! Although the muscle has now healed, what is left behind is a “sling like” layer of fascia that will continue to impede your horses movement until it is released by a Myofascial Release Therapist! I was able to work on this horse quickly after the fact and we got to invoke some major change in the fascia! 🤯

I encourage you to think about what affects leaving this adhesion untouched could have created…. How it could have affected the function of the stifle and the hock?… The general mobility of the pelvis…etc.
