Meet MaineStC***s Wind in the Willows, lovingly known as Willow. 🐾

From the moment she was born, I knew she was something extraordinary. ✨ She was the pick of the litter and everything we hope for in a kitten. The only problem was that, at the time, we believed she was a boy—and we simply did not have room for another male in our breeding program. When we later discovered that our “boy” was actually a girl, we were absolutely beside ourselves. 😹 It felt like fate had stepped in and made the decision for us.

Pictured here at four months old beside her father, RW SGC MaineStC***s DandyLion Wishes, Willow is carrying on a legacy that means more to us than words can express. ❤️ Dandy was our very first homebred show cat and earned the title of TICA Southeast Region’s #1 Maine C**n of the Year in 2025. 🏆 Watching his daughter grow has been both humbling and exciting, because somehow Willow may have raised the bar even higher.

At just four months of age, she already possesses the substantial boning, balance, and overall type we strive so carefully to preserve. For a female kitten, her substance is especially remarkable. But as proud as we are of her physical qualities, it is her temperament that truly captures our hearts. 💕

Willow has the confidence, sweetness, and people-oriented nature that make Maine C***s such beloved companions. She greets the world with curiosity, assumes everyone is her friend, and seems convinced that every lap was made just for her. 🥰

Her name comes from one of my favorite childhood books, The Wind in the Willows. 📖 It also feels like a tribute to her father. Dandy’s name was inspired by the humble dandelion, whose seeds take flight on the wind and travel far beyond where they first took root. 🌬️ Willow is that next journey—the wind carrying a cherished legacy forward, while still becoming something entirely her own.

We adore this girl and are honored to watch her story unfold. 💖 The future is hers, and we can’t wait to see where the wind carries her. 🍃

Many of you have been asking about Bear and Dreamy Junior, and we wanted to share an honest update.

At 14 weeks old, both boys still have detectable heart murmurs following their third kitten wellness visit with our veterinarian last Friday. Their next step will be a diagnostic echocardiogram with a veterinary cardiologist on June 24 so we can better understand exactly what is causing the murmurs and what their long-term outlook may be.

At this point, the most likely cause is something called a VSD (ventricular septal defect), which is a small opening in the wall between the lower chambers of the heart. While hearing the word “defect” sounds frightening, many VSDs are mild, require no surgical intervention, and some even close on their own over time depending on the size and location. That is truly what we are hoping and praying for.

In the meantime, we would greatly appreciate your prayers for these sweet boys. They are deeply loved here, and we are committed to making decisions based on what is best for them — always. When we fully understand their prognosis and any future care requirements, the right homes will find them.

We also want to reiterate something important: transparency matters deeply to us. Even in a breeding program as careful and intentional as ours — with extensive health testing, thoughtful pairing selection, and generations of planning — nature is ultimately in control. Things can and do happen. What matters is how those situations are handled.

In this case, we were fortunate to discover the murmurs before these kittens ever went to new homes, and as always, we will continue to be completely open and honest every step of the way. Always. 🤍

There’s a question I wish more people would ask before reaching out to any breeder — and it’s not “How much?”

A well-bred, ethically raised Maine C**n is never “just a cat.” Behind every kitten is years of study, financial investment, health testing, veterinary care, socialization, heartbreak, joy, and an unwavering commitment to preserving this incredible American legacy breed.

At Maine Street C***s, pricing information is clearly available on our website because transparency matters to us. But price should never be the first question. An informed buyer knows that the quality of breeding practices, health standards, and early development matter far more than saving a few dollars upfront.

If you’re searching for a Maine C**n kitten, here are the questions that actually matter:

Are the parent cats pedigreed Maine C***s, and is the kitten eligible for registration? With which associations?

Have both parents been DNA tested and received recent echocardiograms confirming they are HCM negative?

Are they negative for PKDef, PKD, and SMA?

Do the cats and kittens receive regular professional veterinary care?

Are vaccinations administered by a veterinarian?

Does the breeder routinely test for FeLV/FIV?

Is there a written health guarantee, and what does it cover?

Are the kittens born and raised inside the breeder’s home?

How much time is spent socializing and handling the kittens each day?

At what age are kittens allowed to leave for their new homes?

Ethically bred Maine C***s from preservation breeders typically range from $2,500–$4,500 depending on pedigree, breeder investment, and program goals. If your primary concern is finding the lowest price, we are probably not the right breeder for you — and that’s okay.

We believe in doing things the right way, not the cheap way. Every single time.

Throwing it back to our unforgettable show season with the one and only MaineStC***s Toe Be or Not Toe Be — “Toby” 🤎🐾

This remarkable brown classic tabby with white polydactyl boy captured hearts everywhere he went, earning his place as the #1 Polydactyl Maine C**n internationally and ranking among the Top 25 cats of ALL breeds in the world. An achievement that still leaves us speechless.

Beyond the accolades, Toby is everything we strive for in our preservation program — exceptional type, powerful structure, expressive features, and the loving, people-oriented temperament that makes the Maine C**n breed so special. He is truly the total package.

And the best part? We are thrilled to share that kittens sired by Toby are planned for later this year. We cannot wait to watch the next generation of this incredible boy begin their stories. ✨

Six tiny covers… one unforgettable beginning. ✨

Our Love at First Sight litter is serving main character energy at just 10 weeks old—and this is the moment it all starts to come into focus. The boning, the expression, the presence… little glimpses of the majestic Maine C***s they’re destined to become.

But here’s the truth: beauty takes time. And so does proper development.

At Maine Street C***s, we never rush the process. These kittens need time with their mother and littermates to grow—not just in size, but in confidence, resilience, and emotional stability. That’s why our babies stay with us a minimum of 14 weeks, and sometimes longer, before heading to their forever homes.

Because raising extraordinary companions means prioritizing what’s best for them—every single time. 🤍
