Our Love at First Sight litter is serving main character energy at just 10 weeks old—and this is the moment it all starts to come into focus. The boning, the expression, the presence… little glimpses of the majestic Maine C***s they’re destined to become.

But here’s the truth: beauty takes time. And so does proper development.

At Maine Street C***s, we never rush the process. These kittens need time with their mother and littermates to grow—not just in size, but in confidence, resilience, and emotional stability. That’s why our babies stay with us a minimum of 14 weeks, and sometimes longer, before heading to their forever homes.

There’s no gentle way to say this—what happened to this kitten is exactly the kind of situation every breeder and every pet owner hopes never to face, but must be prepared for.

We’re sharing a story from a fellow Maine C**n breeder that is absolutely heartbreaking. A kitten went to its new home, ingested something it shouldn’t have, and required emergency surgery. When the cost of care became overwhelming, the kitten was abandoned at the veterinary clinic. Despite heroic efforts—including a second surgery—the baby didn’t make it. The final bill exceeded $12,000, but the real cost was far greater.

This is why, at Maine Street C***s, we do things the way we do.

Every kitten leaves us with 30 days of coverage through Trupanion, and we require that an active pet insurance policy be maintained for their lifetime. Not as a suggestion. Not as an upsell. As a responsibility.
