Zoey, JoJo and Kenny came running at the sound of the wand toys' bell and wore themselves out chasing the feather toy. They finally all needed to take a break and rest a while. What a great way to spend an afternoon!

We would like to introduce you to the newest addition to the KKH kitty crew. This is Rumi. This beautiful girl was absolutely terrified when she first came to KKH and her instinctive reaction was to try to attack any hand that came near her. This is why the note on her kennel tells volunteers not to open the door. As you can see, she is overcoming her fear and we are starting to see her playful side. Kind words, Churus, catnip and wand toys are helping her to realize this is a safe place where she can be happy until she gets her furever home. Welcome to KKH, Rumi!

Bonded kitties are kitties who have developed a deep emotional attachment to each other and rely on each other for comfort and support. LuLu and Chonk are a prime example of a bonded pair. They are always together. Both are extremely shy and hide whenever people are in the cat building. We never split up a bonded pair as we know the kitties will not thrive by themselves.

LuLu and Chonk are not yet available for adoption as we continue to work with them to gain their trust. Cats have very sensitive ears that are capable of detecting a range of sounds. Their outer ears can swivel 180 degrees, enabling them to focus on a sound and identify its' source. Ever wonder how they can be catnapping three rooms away and hear the clink of the can opener? Those marvelous ears, that's how!

You can get a clue as to how kitty is feeling by observing those ears. Ears that are facing forward and relaxed means kitty is happy and content. Ears that are straight up and forward indicate the kitty is alert and interested in something. Ears that are twitching indicate the kitty is on high alert and possibly trying to determine whether to pounce or flee. Ears to the side (such as JoJo's and Kenny's) indicate a slight nervousness or uncertainty. In this picture, JoJo and Kenny were getting a chance to meet up close for the first time and uncertainty is to be expected. If their ears were flattened out more to the side, the kitty would definitely be feeling nervous and need some space. Ears flat back against the head is a sign of fear, anger or aggression. Beware of those flat back ears!

Tanya, the Superior Supervisor of Kitty Kat Haven, has a deep and abiding love of catnip. Never try to come between her and her nip nip. Tanya finds catnip to be stimulating and energizing, and she will vigorously defend her catnip. She doesn't care whether it is in the form of a live plant, cut plant or dried. If it is out in the cat building, she wants it. All of it.
