Laser therapy might sound a little scary, but Cruiser will tell you… it’s not! 😄

Laser therapy is a non-invasive treatment that can help with pain relief, reducing swelling, increasing blood flow, and speeding up the healing process.

Our Rehab team uses laser therapy regularly to help patients with a variety of conditions, and we love hearing from owners about the positive results they see at home! 💙

And if Cruiser is any indication, some patients might even think it feels pretty relaxing. 😉🐶

THIS WEEK: Greyhounds 🐕

What makes them unique?
Originally bred for sight hunting, Greyhounds' long legs, flexible spine, deep chest, and powerful hindquarters allow them to reach speeds of around 40–45 mph, perfect for catching prey in open fields. Unlike most hunting dogs that rely on their sense of smell, these dogs use their incredible vision and speed.

Due to their low body fat and high muscle mass, Greyhounds can process anesthesia differently and may take longer to recover. With modern veterinary protocols, most Greyhound surgeries go on without a problem, but it is important to communicate with your veterinarian.

🌸 Meet Clementine! 🌸

This sweet girl came to VCSG after getting into lilies, a beautiful flower that can have deadly consequences for our feline friends. 🐱🌿

For cats, exposure to lilies can cause severe, and even life-threatening, kidney failure. It only takes a small about to be dangerous, which is why it’s so important to keep lilies away from cats.

Luckily, Clementine received excellent care and was closely monitored by our team throughout her stay at VCSG. 🏥💕

Here are some helpful lily safety tips for cat owners:

🌿 Keep true lilies completely out of your home if you have cats.
🌿 Don’t assume your cat will ignore a bouquet, even if they have never bothered your plants before.
🌿 If you think your cat has been exposed to lilies, don’t wait for symptoms to appear. Contact your veterinarian or VCSG right away.

We’re happy to report that Clementine has recovered beautifully! 💕 She is now doing very well and serves as an excellent reminder of just how dangerous lilies can be for our feline friends.

🌸 When it comes to cats and lilies, it’s always better to be safe than sorry. 🐾

🐾 MEET DR. ASHLEY FORBECK! 🐾

We’re excited to welcome Dr. Ashley Forbeck to the VCSG team! 💙

A true Chattanooga native, Dr. Forbeck studied biology at Chattanooga State Community College and The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga before earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from The University of Tennessee–Knoxville. 🐶🐱

After veterinary school, Dr. Forbeck worked in general practice in Maryville, Tennessee, before returning home to Chattanooga to pursue her passion for emergency medicine and critical patient care.

When she’s not at the hospital, you can find Dr. Forbeck exploring nature, checking out local restaurants and breweries, or hunting for hidden gems at vintage shops. She shares her home with her fiancé and their three pets: Richie, an orange tabby; Ophelia, a calico; and Greta, an Australian Cattle Dog mix. 🧡🐾

THIS WEEK: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

What makes them unique?
These majestic dogs were bred to be royalty. They sat on laps in cold castles and on long carriage rides. The modern Cavalier still maintains the lapdog's personality, but they are also known for being more outgoing and eager to explore.

Cavaliers are predisposed to several health conditions, including myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD), a degenerative heart condition that affects the heart's mitral valve.

As many of you may know, we recently brought on Dr. Darryl Millis, as our new Board Certified Surgeon! However, what you many not know is that was also have a new surgical resident, Dr. Nick Millis. Does that name sound familiar? It should, because he is Dr. Darryl Millis's son!

Dr. Darryl and Dr. Nick Millis have come on as a vital part of our surgery department. Dr. Darryl Millis as our new Surgeon and Dr. Nick Millis, his son, following strongly in his footsteps as our new surgical resident. Together they will bring their skills to VCSG and take an already incredible department to another level!

🎉Congrats Stella!!!!🎉

Two years ago, Stella came to VCSG for Radiation Oncology therapy to help treat her cystic meningioma. Her owners reached out to us to celebrate her incredible 2 year milestone!

Over the past 2 years, she has been living her life the the fullest and her family shared some photos of all of her adventures she has had since her treatment.

We couldn't be happier for her! You go Stella! Here's to many more happy adventures!

They may be a little more gray and move a little slower, but they are fur-ever young in our hearts. 🥰

THIS WEEK: THE DACHSHUND 🌭

What makes them unique?
Their long body and short legs were specifically developed for hunting underground, specifically badgers! That is actually how they get their name, Dachshund means “badger dogs” in German.

Their unique body structure also puts them at increased risk for IVDD, their long backs can put extra stress on the discs between their vertebrae.
