Tennessee Aquarium

Tennessee Aquarium A remarkable journey from the mountains to the sea! Within our two buildings, you’ll trace the path of water from the mountains to the sea.

Come face-to-face with the fascinating native animals that live in our backyards and the amazing creatures that thrive in some of the most remote locations on Earth. We celebrate the rich biodiversity of the Southeast through our exhibits and are actively engaged in preserving and restoring that biodiversity through our work in the field.

It’s official! Our first Gentoo chick passed their swim test and joined the colony on Penguins’ Rock! 🐧
Since penguin chicks aren't born with waterproof feathers, they have to wait a full month for their big debut in the water.

To celebrate, we’re hosting a Double Gender Reveal party on Sunday, September 13! Enjoy penguin-themed activities and keeper chats throughout the day, followed by the big reveal at 3:00 PM. This event is free and included with general aquarium admission. 🎊

Feeding our shiver of sharks is always an exciting experience, but it also provides an important opportunity for our aquarists to take stock of their health, keep track of their diet and monitor their body condition and behavior!

This summer has officially been the Summer of Baby Animals here at the Tennessee Aquarium! From tiny flippers to teeny turtle shells, our animal care teams have welcomed an incredible crew of new arrivals this year.

This summer’s baby boom includes:

🦍 One Collared Brown Lemur baby — endangered in the wild
🐧 Two Gentoo Penguin chicks
🐢 Three Four-eyed Turtle hatchlings — critically endangered
🐢 One Beal’s Four-eyed Turtle — endangered
🐢 One Spotted Turtle — endangered
🐢 One Ringed Map Turtle — endangered
🐢 One Hilaire’s Side-necked Turtle

That’s ten new babies representing seven species since April! Every new arrival is worth celebrating, but these births are especially meaningful for helping preserve species facing an uncertain future in the wild.

We're thrilled to introduce you to our two summertime Gentoo Penguin chicks behind-the-scenes at the Tennessee Aquarium! Hatched on June 25 and July 17. They are three weeks apart. During this Facebook Live, you will meet both the chicks, see how fast they grow, learn about their behaviors, and when you can expect to see them on exhibit at Penguins' Rock. Feathers, floof, and fun!

Join us for this virtual presentation, supported by Food City.

As Tennesseans, everyone at the Aquarium is saddened by the news of Dolly Parton's passing. She was a great humanitarian, a globally beloved artist and a devoted advocate of a range of causes, from childhood literacy to the preservation of our natural heritage. Through her talent and dedication, she helped lift up people and communities in her home state and beyond.
