Serving pets and their owners for 40 years! About Highway 58 Animal Hospital

Highway 58 Animal Hospital was established in 1977 by Dr. Lebron Brock.

In 2000, Dr. Brock hired Dr. Shane Whitaker, who became a partner in the hospital in 2005. The practice grew through the loyalty of pet owners in Chattanooga and the surrounding communities of Hixson, Harrison, and Ooltewah. In October 2014, Dr. Brock and Dr. Whitaker opened a new state-of-the-art facility.

This sweet face might just steal the spotlight, but we promise we’re getting some pictures of what’s on the inside, too! 😍📸 Even on the X-ray table, our patients manage to make our day a little brighter. ❤️

💕 A Little Love Before the Ultrasound! 🩺🐾
Before her ultrasound, this sweet girl had to collect a few kisses from her favorite techs! 😘🥰 Around here, we believe a little extra love and reassurance can go a long way in helping our patients feel safe and cared for. ❤️
Because every good vet visit deserves some snuggles before the serious stuff! 🐶💗

🧺🐱 One Basket of Cuteness, Coming Right Up! 💕
We ordered a kitten, and apparently, this little bundle of purr-fection came in a basket! 😻✨ We’re not sure what’s sweeter—the tiny face or those precious paws! 🐾💗

🐾 Angel’s Skin Scraping Solved the Mystery! 🔎💕
Sweet Angel came in today with some skin troubles, and a skin scraping helped our doctor confirm demodex mites as the culprit!
🩺 What is Demodex? Demodex mites are tiny organisms that naturally live in the hair follicles and skin of many dogs. When they multiply excessively, they can cause a condition called demodicosis, leading to hair loss, redness, scaly skin, and sometimes secondary skin infections. The good news? It’s treatable! ❤️
Angel is starting a prescription flea and tick prevention that also helps treat these mites. We’re rooting for this sweet girl as she gets started on the road to healthier, happier skin! 🐶✨

🐾💨 A Little Less Snorting, A Lot More Comfort! 💙
Big breaths, quieter snorts! This sweet patient underwent a soft palate and nares resection to help improve airflow and make breathing easier. These procedures help open up the airway in pets whose anatomy can make breathing more difficult, especially in brachycephalic (short-nosed) breeds.
We’re so happy to help this cutie breathe a little easier and enjoy life more comfortably! 🐶💙

🐾 Felines + Friday = Purr-fect! 🐾
Starting the weekend with a little extra fluff! 😻 This adorable Maine C**n kitten, Zepplen, stopped by for a visit and, frankly, we’re not sure how we’re supposed to get any work done with this much cuteness around. 🥹🐱💕

👂🐱 Chai’s Ears Needed Some Extra TLC! 💙
Sweet Chai came in for feline ceruminous cystomatosis, along with an ear infection. This condition causes small cysts to form in the ear canal, often resulting from abnormal buildup of cerumen (earwax). These cysts can contribute to inflammation, discomfort, and recurring ear infections.
Thankfully, Chai was a trooper for his ear care—and was more than happy to enjoy some well-deserved head scratches afterward! 🥰🐾

Fall fun with the best crew! 🍂🌻
Our annual trip to Flat Top Mountain Farm is one of our favorite traditions—filled with hay rides, corn mazes, flower picking, and plenty of laughs along the way. Taking time to enjoy each other's company outside the hospital helps us come back refreshed and ready to keep caring for your pets. ❤️🐾

Back to daycare and back to being a happy pup! 💙🐾
Freyja stopped by for her suture removal after having a mass removed, and we're happy to report she's feeling great and ready to get back to her favorite activities.
Now we're waiting for her histopathology results, which will give us more information about the mass and help guide any next steps if needed.
Way to go, Freyja! We know your daycare friends are happy to have you back. 💕
