🍂🐾 Hello, September!

A new month is here, soon to bring cooler mornings (after this week!) changing leaves, and plenty of fall adventures with our four-legged friends!

But while the seasons are changing, parasite prevention shouldn’t. Here in Virginia, ticks can remain a threat even throughout the winter, and fleas, heartworms, and other parasites don’t simply disappear when cooler weather arrives.

Keep your pets protected with year-round parasite prevention, and remember to check them for ticks after walks, hikes, and outdoor adventures.

🐾 A Little Behind-the-Scenes with Duchess! 🐾

Meet Duchess, a beautiful 21-week-old Himalayan/Persian who recently spent the day with us for her spay.

This video gives a little peek behind the scenes of her surgery day. From pre-oxygenating before her procedure to resting comfortably afterward while our team monitored her as she woke up from anesthesia. 🩺🐱

A big thank you to Brittany and our wonderful staff for taking these sweet photos so we could share a glimpse of the care that happens behind the scenes with our patients.

🐾 Turning a Scary Vet Visit Into a Safer One. 🐱💙

Dr. Haynes and Chris, one of our LVT students, recently worked together to provide a Fear Free, low-stress exam for a very nervous kitty with a history of aggression during previous veterinary visits.

By slowing things down, reading body language, minimizing restraint, and giving this patient the time and space she needed to feel safe, they were able to work with her rather than against her.

For fearful pets, patience can make a BIG difference. Our goal at Monticello Animal Hospital isn’t just to get through the exam, it’s to help create better veterinary experiences for the future.

❤️ Meet Mr. Bo!

We wanted to share a little bit of Bo’s story after his owner sent us this sweet photo and some kind words about our team at Monticello Animal Hospital.

Bo will be 10 years old on September 5th! 🎉 He made the move from Maine with his owner and has been her “world-class nurse,” fantastic cuddler, and loyal ride-or-die through it all.

Bo has also been through a major surgery of his own, and his owner shared this about her experience with us:

“Bo and I love this practice. Bo had major surgery and the doc gave me a number to call even though he was away. Bo had a tough time and we got all the help we needed. The staff is great.”

We’re so thankful to be part of Bo’s story and to have the opportunity to care for such a special guy.
