Free veterinary care is expanding for DeKalb County residents.

LifeLine operates DeKalb County Animal Services as part of Atlanta’s lifesaving system, and keeping pets healthy in their homes is a critical part of that mission.

Through expanded services, DeKalb residents now have access to more free spay/neuter appointments, including weekend options, 8 free mobile vaccine clinics each month, and help for sick or injured pets.

These services help remove barriers to care, support families, and keep pets where they belong: with the people who love them.

Ticks, man. This is a tough tick season nearly everywhere. Once upon a time I worked on tickborne disease at CDC, so feel pretty passionate about prevention. Right now I am liking Nexguard Plus for my tick magnet dogs, and sometimes I add a Seresto collar when they are in tick prone areas. Thought y'all might appreciate a 2026 photo of Dr Jen flagging for ticks in Virginia and trying to figure out the different species present so I can tailor a control plan. The tube has permethrin-treated cotton in the hopes that local small rodents will take it back to their nests to control the stages that like to feed on them!
