This month we're celebrating our amazing patient, Pluto! 🐾

Pluto has been diagnosed with Cushing’s disease, **What is Cushing’s Disease?**

Cushing’s disease is a condition caused by the body producing too much cortisol. Excess cortisol can lead to increased thirst and urination, increased appetite, panting, hair loss, and a pot-bellied appearance. While Cushing’s disease cannot usually be cured, it can often be successfully managed with medication and regular monitoring, helping pets live happy, comfortable lives. 🐾💙

Pluto continues to take everything in stride and handles his treatments like an absolute champ. His resilience, sweet personality, and tail-wagging spirit are contagious traits here at Avery Animal Clinic!

Managing Cushing’s disease takes dedication from both pets and their families, and Pluto is a wonderful example of how pets can continue to thrive with proper care and monitoring.

🦷🐾 Wellness Wednesday with Wookie! 🐾🦷

Meet Wookie — here to remind everyone that dental health is an important part of your pet’s overall wellness! Just like people, pets can develop plaque, tartar buildup, gum disease, and painful dental infections if their teeth aren’t cared for properly.

Regular dental cleanings help keep your furry friend healthy, happy, and smiling bright. Signs your pet may need a dental check include bad breath, difficulty eating, drooling, or yellow/brown buildup on the teeth.

Give Wookie a ❤️ in the comments if you agree that healthy smiles matter! This cutie was a champ for his most recent dental cleaning and was the absolute cutest as he was waking up from anesthesia!

🇺🇸 In observance of Memorial Day, our clinic will be closed on Monday, May 25.

We honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. ❤️🤍💙

We will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, May 26. If your pet experiences an emergency while we are closed, please contact your nearest emergency veterinary hospital.

Today marks ONE whole year of Avery Animal Clinic being open, and what an incredible journey it’s been! 🐾

From day one, our mission has been simple: to provide compassionate, high-quality care for every pet that walks through our doors—and we couldn’t have done it without this amazing community.

And to top it off, we had the opportunity to see sweet Shorty (pictured here) today! He is an amazing pup cared for by Bullies 2 The Rescue and we are so thankful we got to see him today of all days!

For this week’s Wellness Wednesday, we couldn’t resist sharing all about sweet Maximus 🐾💙

This sweet puppy was born with a cleft lip, making feeding and early care a bit more challenging—but you’d never know it from that happy face! With some extra love, specialized care, and a lot of nub/tail wags, this little one is thriving.

Cleft lips in puppies may look unusual, but with proper veterinary support and care at home, many go on to live healthy, joyful lives. We’re honored to be part of his journey and to support pets (and their people) every step of the way.

He clearly loved his pup cup, as seen on his adorable little chin!

Wellness Wednesday 🐾 Giant Breeds, Giant Love ❤️

Meet Chance! 💙 This handsome Great Dane is already **63 lbs at just 16 weeks old!**

Giant breed dogs like Chance are amazing companions, but they do come with some unique health considerations. With large and giant breed dogs, it’s especially important to focus on joint health through proper nutrition and controlled exercise to keep them comfortable long-term.

We also talk with owners about preventative options like a gastropexy, a procedure that can help prevent GDV (Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus)—commonly known as “bloat.” GDV occurs when the stomach fills with gas and then twists on itself, cutting off blood flow to the stomach and other vital organs. This is a rapidly life-threatening emergency that requires immediate veterinary care.

Big dogs need big care! ❤️
