We may be 2/3 of the way through 3Q but our 2Q update has been sitting in my drafts. While we weren’t able to add as many pups to .foster.dog.house April-June as I would have liked we were able to help in ways I never pictured.

😇 We launched Buddy’s Angel Fund with a $1,000 donation in honor of a beloved alum and in the hopes pet owners may be able granted more time with less of a financial hinderance.

🎁 Our favorite blew us away with a box truck full of pet food. More than we could ever use ourselves - we were able to disperse it to other nonprofits to supply pet food pantries or for rescue/shelter pups.

❤️ Nova is the first heartworm positive dog we’ve had a foster willing to commit to. We’re so happy to say she finished treatment without complications and has began her search for her forever family (👀 stay tuned 🤫)

🗓️ We’ve had a great summer of adoption events despite the heat. We’re excited to be the raffle beneficiary at the upcoming All American Dog Show. We will absolutely need help for this event (dog handling, raffle ticket sales) so please mark your calendars.

🎯 1Q Goal update: Duncan is heading to a board train program with at the end of September. This is an investment made with a lot of intention and although it won’t suddenly increase his adoption interest, after two years with little to no interest we needed to do something.

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!

Auggie is an ~11-week-old fluffy black puppy with a mystery breed mix and an equally mysterious future size! Adopters will have to be open minded (& okay with shedding) as he was brought to the shelter as a stray so we don’t have any background.

This little guy (currently 10lbs) is a classic puppy through and through. Auggie is fiesty, playful, and he’s still learning that fingers, toes, and everything else aren’t chew toys. He’s also working hard on potty training, so his new family should be ready for all the fun (and occasional messes!) that comes with puppyhood. Crate and leash training are also in his future. We expect he’ll catch on quickly with some patience.

His favorite routine is rather simple at this age: PLAY HARD → NAP HARD → REPEAT 💤 and of course he’s always excited about meal time.

Auggie would love a playful canine companion who can help keep up with his puppy antics and show him the ropes though he's a little intimated by bigger pups so supervision is a must until he catched up.

Auggie is UTD on age appropriate vaccines, kept on flea/tick/heartworm prevention. His neuter & microchip will be covered by the rescue when 6 months of age.

Didn’t leave the shelter this weekend empty handed!

Meet Auggie! He’s ~8 weeks old and about 5lbs. Previous fleas did a number on his skin but he’s now thriving indoors and being a typical puppy. Piranha teeth, stealing my slippers, etc. No idea what his breed mix is. No idea how big he’ll get. Just know he’s adorable and fluffy!

He’ll be adoptable soon once he gets more vaccines. Let me know if you want to be kept updated on his availability. Foster to adopt is always an option.

We celebrated Christmas 5 months early and it was a hit! Just look at Nova's smile (Howie was a bit skeptical).

Thank you to our volunteer Summer Santa, (Howie's foster) & (Duncan's foster) for coordinating everything, for use of the indoor event space, and for bringing everyone's favorite - puppies & kittens! Thanks to the generosity of those that stopped by for a photo or grabbed a tag from our angel tree, we were able to raise some funds that will help us continue rescuing, caring for, and finding loving homes for dogs in need.

Special thanks to the vendors that spent thier afternoon with us. Be sure to follow them to see where they'll be popping up next!

Buddy the beagle had the odds stacked against him before he ever became a member of The Foster Dog House. While we will never know his whole story, we believe lack of access to basic vet care left him with chronic conditions that ultimately couldn't be overcome.

In Buddy’s memory we have established an Angel Fund at the vet practice that did so much to help him. Staff will have discretion on using funds how they see fit but we hope this financial assistance will grant others the opportunity to have more time with their beloved pets. We have made an initial donation of $1,000 with plans to replenish throughout the year.

BEAGLE AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!

Copper would be the easiest foster ever if I could be home all day to give him the belly rubs he craves and only had him as a pet. He literally sleeps (& snores) 90% of the day. He will climb into your lap, move your hand, or flop right over to get affection. He enjoys exploring the yard or a neighborhood stroll but those little legs don't need to cover much distance. He's the perfect fit for a retiree/wfh/homebody who is seeking a pint sized, low energy companion and can provide him undivided attention.

As much as I enjoy the social media aspect of showcasing our adoptable pups and having great photos to share (thank you for this one), most of the time our adoptions simply stem from right place, right time.

Opal (now Maggie!) was adopted by a family that was in town from Georgia for a concert, stumbled upon 's Common Market, then spotted .foster.dog.house set up, and Opal found her forever after waiting 4 months!

We’ve now attended the market 3 times and 4 pups have found their forever home from people that fell in love with them on the spot (one not even being present that day). Even Pistachio's sweet temp foster first spotted him there last month. It's truly been our lucky spot and we're so grateful to have an open invitation to attend.

While the summer heat means we won't be back until the fall, you can find markets throughout the month at the Bowl in Ballantyne, Birkdale, and now Camp North End.

Last month .foster.dog.house gained a guardian angel. Buddy the beagle joined TFDH in January-25 from a shelter that called him Fat Baby. Within minutes of arriving, it was quickly apparent that an obvious illness wasn’t disclosed. We spent the next several weeks fighting what we believed to be a severe case of pneumonia. With help from the team and his foster fam we eventually got him to a stable place where he could be adopted. Friends of ours, they followed up with specialist that confirmed a chronic lower airway condition which ultimately needed to be helped with daily inhaler treatments. Unfortunately the lack of prior proper care also led to him testing positive for heartworms several months into being adopted. Buddy passed away on April 15 due to complications from heartworm treatment.

While Buddy got the short straw of health, he hit the jackpot of people who got to love him through it. I have no doubt it was LOVE that allowed him many months of extra time he undoubtedly wouldn’t have had otherwise. While I wish he didn’t have to break so many hearts when he gained his angel wings, it was worth it to give him a chance to be a dog & beloved family member. I know we’d all do it again if we could.

Someday The Foster Dog House will have many guardian angels as a dogs only fault is they don’t live long enough. I can’t think of a more special #1.

We’re still heartbroken but we will be honoring Buddy’s memory in a really special way that we will announcing very soon.

SATURDAY!

While we don’t have many adoptable dogs at the moment, we will be at this week’s Saturday AM to hopefully recruit more fosters to change that!

I already can’t wait for a .nc croissant but I’m excited to check out all the other local goodies!

🐶 If you’re a morning person and have a foster dog, you are more than welcome to hang at our tent to showcase your pup regardless of organization.

Huntersville Growers Market is an outdoor, open air market, offering fresh produce, eggs, baked goods, dog treats, select craft items, free chef samples and more. Market season is May thru August at Veterans Park at Main & Maxwell, downtown Huntersville on Saturdays from 8am-12pm.
