Last month .foster.dog.house gained a guardian angel. Buddy the beagle joined TFDH in January-25 from a shelter that called him Fat Baby. Within minutes of arriving, it was quickly apparent that an obvious illness wasn’t disclosed. We spent the next several weeks fighting what we believed to be a severe case of pneumonia. With help from the team and his foster fam we eventually got him to a stable place where he could be adopted. Friends of ours, they followed up with specialist that confirmed a chronic lower airway condition which ultimately needed to be helped with daily inhaler treatments. Unfortunately the lack of prior proper care also led to him testing positive for heartworms several months into being adopted. Buddy passed away on April 15 due to complications from heartworm treatment.

While Buddy got the short straw of health, he hit the jackpot of people who got to love him through it. I have no doubt it was LOVE that allowed him many months of extra time he undoubtedly wouldn’t have had otherwise. While I wish he didn’t have to break so many hearts when he gained his angel wings, it was worth it to give him a chance to be a dog & beloved family member. I know we’d all do it again if we could.

Someday The Foster Dog House will have many guardian angels as a dogs only fault is they don’t live long enough. I can’t think of a more special #1.

We’re still heartbroken but we will be honoring Buddy’s memory in a really special way that we will announcing very soon.

SATURDAY!

While we don’t have many adoptable dogs at the moment, we will be at this week’s Saturday AM to hopefully recruit more fosters to change that!

I already can’t wait for a .nc croissant but I’m excited to check out all the other local goodies!

🐶 If you’re a morning person and have a foster dog, you are more than welcome to hang at our tent to showcase your pup regardless of organization.

Last week Nova completed Stage 2 of 4 of her heartworm treatment.

Though she is the first pup .foster.dog.house has supported through treatment, I have spent years reading about protocols & following many others who have fostered heartworm positive dogs, preparing if we were ever in a position to help. Ultimately, I'm not an expert. is guiding us through the process for the best possible outcome. This month focused on killing the "baby worms" before the more intense phases focus on the "adults" beginning in a few weeks. Nova has proven to be so deserving of our help & commitment. She's been great in her foster home since day 1. She LOVES her people (the hugs are cute but is working on her jumpiness), she doesn't care about other dogs (& maybe even cats?), she likes to sleep in, she gets very excited for her daily walks, and obviously she's very eye catching. While we are nervous for the months ahead, the only way is through it.
(PSA: don't forget dogs need heartworm prevention YEAR ROUND. This is additional to flea/tick prevention.)

Spent the weekend with Cowboy! 🤠

His full bio has been on our website and Adopt a Pet for a couple weeks now but he's still waiting to round up the perfect family. All of his vetting is complete and he's raring to go!

Albeit adorable and soft, Cowboy is likely some kind of shepherd/heeler/cattle dog mix which means he's the ideal pup for an equally youthful, active, & playful companion (human and/or 4 legged!).

At ~6 months old he's through the worst of the puppy behaviour and starting to build manners but he's still an energetic spaz who uses his mouth when he has big feelings. Thankfully he loves toys so he's easily redirected and he loves food too so has caught on quickly to "sit" and "down".

He's awesome in public and happy to meet new people and other dogs. His looks get a lot of attention as you can imagine so hopefully it's only a matter of time before he catches the eye of the right family.

It's hard to believe we’ve had Bolt for over half his life! However, we are now at my favorite puppy age and we’re having so much fun while we wait for him to find his forever.

At 4, almost 5, months old, we are through the worst of the piranha phase. He dashes out the doggy door and takes care of business all on his own. The other dogs in the house aren’t as exciting to him anymore so he leaves them alone. We know how to tire him out and are rewarded with lots of cat naps throughout the day - usually wherever the sun spot is. We’ve been able to add “down” to his “skills” and he runs to his crate when he knows it’s meal time.

Despite lots of public appearances and many comments “oh he’ll go fast”, he has not gotten the right adoption interest (hardly any interest at all if we’re being honest). His bio is rather honest and I’m sure his suspected breed mix isn’t the most popular in internet searches - but I know we will find the right family eventually. In the meantime, enjoy these glamour shots captured!

Quarter end is usually a busy time for those that work in Corporate America. For our rescue, it’s a good time to reflect on what we’ve been able to accomplish in the first 3 months of the year, where we’re at, and what we hope to achieve moving forward.

💰 Thanks to adoptions, supporters at events, and generous friends & family - we’re good; a blessing we don’t take for granted. Our partnership with is a HUGE reason we’re able to stay in the green and we’re so grateful for their willingness to work with our foster pups. Although it takes just one emergency to take care of that surplus we’re going to knock on wood and continue to be very intentional about our “yeses”.

👥 We’re growing! We had help from 3 new fosters this quarter and we’re so grateful! I hope we can welcome even more new to us fosters in the months ahead. Fosters hand pick the pups they want to help! If you’d be interested in getting involved - check out our website for more info about fostering!

🎯 Of course I’d love adoptions for any & all of our pups, but out of the norm I’d like to find the best board & train fit for Duncan, who has been waiting an embarrassingly long time for a chance at forever. If you have any recommendations of who we should reach out to send us a message!

🗓️ Adoptions have been slow this year even for our friendliest pups so we’re excited to have some additional public exposure to look forward to. Mark your calendars and we hope to see you there!

Even a well thought out post can’t capture everything but thank you for reading, following, & cheering for us from a far. All the “work” is worth it! 🐾
