🐾❤️ BUCK FOUND HIS FOREVER HOME… BUT HIS JOURNEY ISN’T OVER YET! ❤️🐾

Our sweet boy Buck recently got the happy ending we hoped for — a loving forever family! 🏡 But now, he needs a little help with the next chapter of his journey.

During Buck’s time with Dogwood Doberman Rescue, we discovered that he had undergone a previous hip surgery (FHO), likely due to an old injury or hip dysplasia. Unfortunately, Buck continues to experience mobility limitations, and additional surgery is needed to give him the best possible quality of life.

💕 The good news? Buck’s amazing new family is committed to getting him the care he needs, and his surgery is officially scheduled for Tuesday, October 13th!

While Buck is no longer in our rescue, he will ALWAYS be part of the Dogwood family. We want to rally our incredible community to help his adopters with the financial burden of this procedure.

Buck’s surgery will take place at Carolina Veterinary Specialists in Charlotte, under the care of Dr. Arnold.

To ensure every dollar goes directly toward Buck’s medical expenses, donations can be made directly to the veterinary hospital on his behalf.

🐾 “I’d love to foster, BUT…”

BUT I work full-time.
BUT I don’t have a big yard.
BUT I travel sometimes.
BUT I can’t commit for months.
BUT I wouldn’t know what I’m doing.

Sound familiar? 👀

Here’s the thing: You don’t have to have the perfect home, the perfect schedule, or all the answers to be the PERFECT person to foster a Doberman. ❤️

At DDR, we know life is busy! That’s why we work with our fosters to find dogs that fit their lifestyles, provide the supplies and veterinary care they need, and make sure they have an entire team behind them every step of the way.

🖤 COLE IS READY TO FIND HIS PEOPLE! 🖤

Cole’s foster mom describes him best: a big, d***y love bug with a personality you really have to meet to appreciate. 😂

He’s playful, affectionate, social with other dogs, and always wants to be part of whatever his people are doing — whether that’s an adventure or a lazy football Sunday on the couch. 🏈 He’s also a professional Doberman leaner, so personal space is optional.

Cole does well with other dogs and takes corrections appropriately, although sometimes his excitement arrives before his manners do. 😂 He’s lived around cats too, but REALLY wants them to play, so a dog-savvy cat or cat-free home may be best.

We know someone is going to meet this goofy, handsome boy and wonder how they ever lived without him. 🥹🖤

Another Newbie Alert — Meet Rozco! 💙

Apparently one new Doberman this week simply wasn’t enough. 😂 Meet Rozco, our handsome 3-year-old newcomer who is officially settling into the Dogwood family!

Rozco is still very new to us, so right now we’re giving him time to decompress while his foster gets to know the real Rozco outside of everything that comes with a major life change.

And we’re already learning a few things about this guy. ❤️

On a recent outing, Rozco started to react when a couple of dogs walked by. His foster gave him one correction on the slip lead, and that was all he needed — he settled, watched them pass and moved on. That willingness to redirect is a great starting point, and we’ll continue learning how he feels about other dogs as he settles in.

The crate, however? Rozco would currently like to leave a one-star review. 😂 He isn’t a fan just yet, so his foster will be working with him on becoming more comfortable with crate time.

But remember — Rozco just got here.

Right now, we aren’t making big assumptions about who he is based solely on his first few days in rescue. He gets time to decompress, learn his new routine and show us who he is at his own pace.

For now, he’s safe. He’s settling in. And his foster has already started putting in the work. 💙

Welcome to Dogwood, Rozco! 🐾 We have a feeling we’re going to learn a whole lot more about this handsome boy very soon.

🐾 Welcome to Dogwood, Davina! ❤️

Say hello to our newest red-headed beauty, Davina! 😍

Davina joined the Dogwood family this past weekend, and right now her only job is to decompress, settle in, and learn that she’s safe. We follow a two-week decompression period with our new dogs, so we’re giving this gorgeous girl plenty of time and space before asking too much of her.

Here’s what we know about Davina so far:

🏡 She is house trained and crate trained and reportedly sleeps wonderfully through the night in her kennel.

🚗 She’s a great car rider! She may be a little antsy for the first few minutes, but then settles in and snoozes for the ride.

🌳 She loves being outside, going for walks and exploring trails.

🧸 She LOVES her toys — although toys are also something that will need to be managed around other dogs.

🧠 We’re told she’s very smart, trainable and responsive, and she had already begun working with a trainer before coming to us.

🐕 She has lived around other dogs, but her experience with smaller dogs is limited, so we’ll be learning much more about her dog-to-dog interactions once she has settled in.

❤️ And Davina apparently forms very strong bonds with her people. Sometimes a little too strong — girlfriend knows what she loves. 😂

Because Davina literally just got here, we aren’t going to pretend we know exactly who she is yet. A dog’s behavior during transition can look very different from who they become once they feel secure. Over the next few weeks, her foster will be learning her routines, triggers, quirks, likes, dislikes and everything in between.

For now?

No pressure. No big expectations. Just decompression. ❤️
