Meet Stratus, our very own walking cloud! 🤍 At 84 pounds of fluffy Great Pyrenees mix goodness, this one-year-old girl is as dreamy as she looks.

Stratus is a calm, independent gal who loves sniffing, exploring and hanging out near her people. Once she feels comfortable, her playful side starts to shine, and she’s even enjoyed running and playing with other dogs! She’s looking for a patient adopter who will let her build trust at her own pace and appreciate her sweet, easygoing spirit.

Animals at the Humane Society of Charlotte are adopted on a first come, first served basis. No appointment needed.

Sometimes one animal changes your life...and then inspires you to change the lives of so many more.

This foster’s story with HSC began back in 2011, when an orange kitten named Candy Cane came home as an early Christmas surprise and became Buttercup, a beloved member of the family who is still with them today.

That experience planted a seed: the desire to give other animals the same chance. Years later, fostering has become one of the most meaningful ways to do just that.

“Knowing that I’m one of the first people teaching them that the world can be a safe place and that they are worthy of love is what it’s all about for me.”

That is the magic of fostering. You get to be part of the transformation. You provide the safe place between where an animal has been and wherever their next chapter takes them.

And you don’t do it alone. 💙 Our foster team is there with supplies, advice, encouragement and support every step of the way.

Looking for a fun (and meaningful!) way to spend your Labor Day weekend? 📚🐾

Join us THIS SATURDAY for Reading Buddies 101! Kids and their grown-ups can complete a one-time orientation to become official HSC Reading Buddies, then come back during open hours to read to our shelter animals. 💙

Not only is it a great way for young readers to practice their skills, but the calm, soothing companionship can also help our dogs and cats feel more comfortable while they wait for adoption.

During orientation, you’ll learn about dog and cat body language, how the program works, and everything you need to know to be an amazing Reading Buddy. Afterward, you’ll be ready to grab a book and make a new furry friend! 🐶🐱📖
