Please help us congratulate our Employee of the Month, Kim Almond, our wonderful Executive Assistant, who wanted to give up her spot on social media to adoptable Twyla. 🥰

Below is just one of the nominations that Kim received:
“Kim is such a delight to work with. She is willing to help anyone no matter the task and far beyond what is required. Last month I saw her completely clean the kitchen and reorganize the closet in Ops. She is always asking how she can help and if we need anything before running errands. She is also so incredibly funny, and I am so happy to get to work with her every day, she truly makes my life easier and I can’t thank her enough for the support she has given.”

Adoptable Twyla recently completed HW treatment and is ready to find her pawfect match! Learn more about her at the link in the comments below.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Humane Society of Charlotte's Spring Luncheon: Celebrating Women in Animal Welfare.

We are incredibly grateful to the supporters, advocates, volunteers, donors, and community leaders who came together to celebrate the compassion, dedication, and impact of women who are making a difference for animals throughout our community.

A special congratulations to our 2026 award recipients:
🏆 Robin Smith-Salzman received the Champion Award for her extraordinary commitment to animal welfare through advocacy, philanthropy, and community leadership. Through the Giving With Grace Foundation, Robin has dedicated countless hours and resources to helping animals and the organizations that serve them.

🏆 Dr. Jen Larson received the Leadership Award for strengthening HSC's work through her expertise, generosity, and partnership. From providing specialized care for heartworm-positive dogs at Uptown Veterinary Hospital, to sharing her veterinary knowledge with our team, Dr. Larson's impact is felt every day by the animals we serve.

🏆 SueAnn McDonald received the Tailwagger Award for the joy, energy, and heart she brings to the HSC community. Whether welcoming visitors in our retail shop, supporting adoptions, or brightening someone's day, SueAnn embodies the spirit of compassion that drives our mission.

To our attendees, sponsors, volunteers, and supporters: thank you for believing in a future where every animal is treated with kindness and care. Your support makes our lifesaving work possible, and we are honored to celebrate alongside a community that cares so deeply for animals and the people who love them.

We would also like to thank our event emcee, Vanessa Ruffes as well as our event sponsors, MetLife Pet Insurance, Social Pet at Pineville, Social Pet at Charlotte, Social Pet at Northlake, The Mint Museum, Newport One, and Boingo Graphics.

Thinking about fostering but not sure if you're ready?

This was Walt's foster mom's very first foster experience:
"First Foster Completed! Today I say goodbye to my first ever foster, Walt. He has been the most perfect boy, only occasionally testing me lol. Remy and Walt are now best friends and we will both miss him so much! I can’t wait for this boy to find his perfect forever family 🤍"

Every foster starts somewhere. You don't need experience. You just need a little extra space in your home and heart. We provide the rest!

Ready to make a difference for pets like Walt? Head to the link in the comments! 👇

"Beans (tabby/previously Kee) was adopted in 2024 and Butters (white/previously Domino) adopted in 2025. Beans immediately ran this household and Butters took some time to come out of his shell but now they are bffs! They love to enjoy their late night zoomies together! We are so lucky to have these sweet boys in our life!"

Meet Macmoo, Wawa Cat, & Hot Wheels! While Macmoo is FeLV+ and Wawa Cat and Hot Wheels are FIV+, none of these labels define who they are.

🐱 FIV+ cats can live long, healthy lives and often coexist peacefully with other cats, regardless of their FIV status
🐱 Many FeLV+ cats enjoy happy, loving lives with proper care. They can also happily live with other FeLV cats
🐱 Neither diagnosis can be spread to people or dogs

What these three really want is simple: a cozy bed, a sunny window, and someone to love them.

Special needs cats are often overlooked, but some of the most incredible companions come wrapped in a few extra letters on their medical chart. 🥲

Help us find these feline friends the families they've been waiting for! Share this post, tag a cat lover, or stop by HSC to meet them today.

Our resident tri-pawd, Yardstick, is looking for someone who will stand 15 toes down for her just like she will for them. 🐾

Even though she's missing a leg, she is a pup who doesn't let having three legs slow her down one bit!

Yardstick is a loving pup who enjoys spending time by your side and soaking up attention along the way. She would thrive in a home where she can be the center of attention and would do best as the only dog in the home. If you're looking for a resilient, affectionate companion with lots of love to give, Yardstick might just be your perfect match.

All adoptions are handled on a first-come, first-served basis at our Adoption Center, located at 1348 Parker Drive. No appointment is needed to meet your future furry friend! Hours: Sunday-Thursday 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Friday 11 a.m.-7 p.m., and Saturday 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

Meet Twyla, the ultimate lover girl with a heart full of sweetness just waiting to be shared. 🥹

She can be a tiny bit shy when you first meet her, but give her a moment and you’ll see her soft, affectionate personality shine through. Twyla simply wants to be near her people—whether that’s lounging by your side, following you from room to room, or soaking up all the love you’re willing to give.

If you’re looking for a gentle, devoted companion who will adore being part of your everyday life, Twyla is ready to be your girl. 🥲

Twyla received her first Heartworm treatment injection today, so she is currently on medical hold. Once she becomes available again, you'll see her listed on our website and we invite you to come meet her any time we're open!
