He was out of options. Out of resources. I asked if I could try. This was her answer…

Almost a year later, he’s a new dog.

Y’all have no idea the impact of that conversation on both our lives. On me as a rescue trainer. Thank you, BSC

Just a couple more days, baby brother. Here comes the future you always deserved 🤘❤️

June is PTSD Awareness Month.

In the United States, someone dies by su***de about every 11 minutes. That’s roughly 131 deaths per day, or nearly 4,000 people during the month of June. Men account for nearly 80% of su***de deaths, and su***de remains one of the leading causes of death among young people.

The strongest people I know are often the ones carrying the heaviest burdens in silence.

Check on your people

And if you’re the one struggling, you don’t have to carry it alone.

Call or text 988 any time, day or night.

Sometimes a simple conversation is enough to get someone through one more day.

So we toured The Forge in Huntersville today. The Forge is a nonprofit that supports first responders and veterans with use of their gorgeous property grounds at and a second location in Locust NC.

We’ll have more to share on all that soon, but just as a “These are good people” story.

The CEO of Midas asks me “Hey do you want a water?”

And sends me home with this 😆

There’s people out there that will give you all you need and more - and we’re excited to work with them 🤘

Buddy is home from the hospital. Our vet partners did an amazing job removing dead and infected tissue and getting him all stitched up.

He seems sore but in good spirits, and Coach Cuddle is helping him settle in and he’s already in love with her.

I knew he was sweet but WHAT A HAM!

I’ll have a bigger update soon but I wanted y’all to see him.

I am the one take wonder!

Stoked to be doing a little work with Maverick, therapy dog for (Now Pierce Foundation)

The first responder therapy dog world is where I got my start, so being able to help Mav be his best and do amazing work for first responders all over is pretty incredible.

Tell you first responder friends to check out the Pierce Foundation - we had an amazing time at the last conference we went to with them, and there’s another coming to Asheville this fall!

The linktree in our bio goes to the NEW merch store where you can get cool swag like my new RAINJACKET! (A must for any dog trainer in the Carolinas apparently…)

Every purchase sends the proceeds to allowing them to provide trained service dogs for veterans and first responders, as well as assisting with animal rescue work 🤘

If you’re a nudist without use for clothing, you can also just donate directly. Seriously where do you keep your wallet tho-Ya know what? Nevermind! 😂

Some randoms from a big work day! Freedom Farm is GROWING.

I got a little carried away working and didn’t take enough pictures but we had an awesome Saturday working and playing…and even found time for an Italian Job like getaway whilst receiving dogs from AC and needing to not be followed by bad dudes.

It was awesome and I will never tell you about it. 🤘😂

This is Buddy. Buddy the Boxer should be enjoying his golden chapter with the man who rescued him off the highway years ago.

But a few nights ago another dog broke through the door of his home, attacking Buddy where he lay.

Buddy’s owner put his body between his old friend and the attacking dog. He fought the dog off, saving Buddy.

And it cost him his life.

Buddy lost his dad and his best friend, and as a result of the attack, he has a massive infection and fever that required hospitalization with one of our vet partners.

Today when I heard this story, of a man I never met who gave everything for his dog, I knew that made him a fellow rescuer and a brother. So I said yes. I jumped without a safety net.

If you have followed this page for any amount of time, you know who caught me.

Buddy is now with and admitted for care. This is going to be expensive and the rescue is already stretched so thin.

So I’ll beg. I already swore to be his caretaker until we could find him the home he deserves, but now I’ll beg for your help covering his medical expenses.

I’ll beg on behalf of his dad, who loved this boy so much he gave his life for him.

Help looks like sharing this post, donating to Forgotten, Now Family, adopting from them, or offering to foster another pup so they can continue this work.

Thank you. Thank you ALL for catching me when I jump.

-Rick

When someone says “I follow you” I have stopped saying “Sorry about that” and started saying “Thank you” instead.

This year really has been the most personal growth since potty training.
