Meet the newest members of the CB&B family! These beautiful baby Rankin’s dragons (Pogona henrylawsoni) just started to hatch yesterday morning and the Critter Crew couldn’t be more excited! Looking forward to seeing the rest of their clutchmates when they make their appearances in the coming days!
Native to Australia, Rankins dragons are a close cousin of the bearded dragon (Pogona vitticeps), and although they look objectively similar, the main difference is their size! While beardies can reach lengths of around two feet, Rankin’s dragons max out at only 12 inches. This makes Rankin’s the perfect pet for someone who wants a beardie but doesn’t have quite enough space for a really big enclosure!

Check out the amazing white chin and speckled camouflage coloration of the Köhler’s vine snake (Oxybelis koehleri) that the Critter Crew recently encountered down in Roatan, Honduras! These beautiful arboreal colubrids inhabit the jungles of Central America, preying on small lizards, frogs, and insects. After a few quick photographs, this amazing serpent was returned, unharmed, to the same shrubbery branches where it was initially discovered.

Take a look at the newest member of the CB&B family! This gorgeous northern spiny tailed gecko (Strophurus ciliaris) hatched earlier this week at our Charlotte location, and the Critter Crew couldn’t be more excited!
Native to Australia, these unusual gecko’s are active at night, preying on a variety of insects and small invertebrates. Interestingly, they have also been known to consume certain types of tree sap to supplement their insect filled diet. These small lizards also exhibit an interestingly unique defense mechanism. When threatened, they spray a foul smelling sticky liquid out of their tails to help ward of potential predators!

Check out the trio of venomous timber rattlesnakes (Crotalus horridus) that the Critter Crew was privileged to help our friends at safely release on their 300+ acre wildlife preserve property last weekend! These beautiful babies are the offspring of a big pregnant female who was brought to CWR last year after she had been attacked and seriously injured by someone’s dogs.
It was truly an honor being able to help these little beauties with their transition from life in a glass terrarium to the freedom of life in the wild. Watching these babies slither off into the leaf litter of the protected wildlife sanctuary ecosystem was both heartwarming as well as a bittersweet farewell for everyone involved.
