To follow up on some questions from our Fun Fact Friday…

Ozone administered re**ally provides an almost immediate pain relief because the body absorbs it through the recital tissue and into the blood stream so much faster. This allows for fast acting anti-inflammatory effects as well as pain control.

Take a look at this video of a horse treated with re**al ozone yesterday. He was a perfect example of how quickly and effectively this type of treatment can work.

Why do the needles sometimes come out bent or twisty?

It’s not uncommon that acupuncture needles may appear to be bent or twisted after they are removed from a horse’s body. Because these needles are very thin, and are also being inserted through multiple planes of tissue that move opposite of each other, this isn’t actually a bad thing!

If an acupuncture needle is inserted into a trigger point over tissue or an area of the body that is already sore, inflamed or has any underlying issues, the muscle will spasm and grab on to the needle as its being twisted down through the layers. These trigger points, or knots, will create pressure around the needle, especially as its being removed, causing them to bend.

The hope is that putting pressure along these sensitive spots and twisting the fibers around the needles will create more blood flood to the area. If a needle feels stuck in the muscle, this can sometimes create little micro tears in the tissue as the needle is being removed and force more blood flow there, which brings anti inflammatory and healing properties.
