Remember those bags we hinted about a few weeks ago?

HERE’S WHAT WERE DOING WITH THEM!

Michigan Large Animal Associates is partnering with Helping Hands Food Pantry in Charlotte to collect donations for the Holiday Season. During your appointments this month, please ask for a bag and help us collect non-perishable items to fill the Food Bank for Families who may need a little extra support this holiday.

Once your shopping bad is full, we can either pick it up at your next appointment or you can drop it off at our office. Your contribution will help ease food insecurity in the community, one meal at a time!

Suggestions on what to fill your bag with:
Food items:
Cereal, Mac & Cheese, Hamburger Helper, Rice-a-Roni, soups, canned meats, canned pasta, spaghetti sauce, canned vegetables, canned fruit, peanut butter & jelly, crackers

Personal Care Items:
Body wash, shampoo/conditioner, toothbrushes, toothpaste, feminine hygiene products, deodorant, razors, shaving cream, bar soap, dish soap, hairbrushes/combs, chapstick, baby wipes

Together, we can make a difference for our community!

But do they ALL have to come out??

This senior horse had one tooth extracted earlier this summer after finding a fracture on dental radiographs, but evidence of EORTH was present as well. At the time, the priority was to remove the one fractured tooth, with the understanding that the rest may need to follow at a later time if they started to bother him.

That day had arrived, and Dr. Davis successfully removed all affected incisors in order to eliminate further problems for this guy in the future.

Because EORTH occurs below the gum surface, it’s hard to tell how damaged the teeth are without a dental radiograph. And typically removing one bad tooth will create the rest to loosen and not hold position very well. Truly, the best way to ease pain and provide long term comfort and quality of life is to remove most, if not all, of the affected incisors.

Luckily horse mouths heal really well after procedures like this and aftercare is relatively simple! This boy is already back to his perky self, enjoying his golden years.

On this day we administered:
19 Potomac Boosters
15(ish) Banamine Injections
9 Legend Injections

That’s a lot of syringe caps to pop!
