BONUS fun fact: As ethical breeders, we try to avoid taking and posting pictures of these naked hairless babies even if they can be SO cute…. but WHY?!

1. Handling animal babies— really any animal babies not just hamsters— puts your scent on the baby. Sometime an animal parent will reject or neglect a baby with a human scent on it. Which is why in most circumstances the best advice when you find an animal baby in the middle of nowhere is to leave it be. Same with hamsters, messing with babies while they are still relying on their mom to sustain themselves can give the mom an opportunity to reject the babies.

2. By not taking pictures of our hamster babies we’re protecting them. By not POSTING we’re encouraging people to do the same. We don’t want to encourage other people to have hamster babies in the first place, but if they happen to we don’t want them to mess with them :)

4 years ago I rescued this beautiful boy who was abandoned in an apartment after the renters moved out. He was left in a Critter Jail with another hamster. He was the sweetest boy ever and lived almost 3 years with me 💗

Hamsters can have fruits and veggies several times per week. And in fact they should! It adds more flavors & textures to their diet, it’s great for their health, and quite simply…they love it!

Each piece should be no bigger than their ear so it can easily dry out if added to their hoard. Larger pieces can get moldy if stored.

The number one goal of ethical breeding is to better the species you are breeding. That means health is of utmost priority. Temperament and conformation are secondary, and colors and patterns come after that. Profit doesn't even come into play, as most ethical breeders either break even or lose money.

It's about not over-breeding our females. It's about providing the highest level of husbandry to the parents and the pups. And it's about the hope that one day there will no longer be large mills where animals are bred and kept in deplorable conditions, and oftentimes end up in rescues and shelters.

All ethical hamster breeders in the US adhere to the strict standards set by the California Hamster Association.

I'm so excited to announce that I will start breeding Syrian hamsters later this year or early 2027 in Charlotte NC. They'll be bred according to the strict guidelines of the California Hamster Association, and I'm currently mentoring under Poppy Bee Hamstery and Fairy Garden Hamsters.
