This next one might surprise some people coming from us.
Because when we talk about what needs to change in animal welfare, we also have to be willing to look at the organizations working within it.
One of the biggest mistakes we make is ๐ฎ๐๐๐๐บ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ฐ๐๐ฒ ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ฒ๐ ๐ผ๐๐ฟ ๐๐๐ฝ๐ฝ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ ๐๐ถ๐บ๐ฝ๐น๐ ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐๐๐ฒ ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐โ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐ฎ ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ฐ๐๐ฒ.
They donโt.
Some organizations are changing their communities.
Some are simply maintaining the crisis.
And yesโฆ
Some have built impressive fundraising machines without building equally impressive results.
โThe logo doesnโt matter.
โThe follower count doesnโt matter.
โThe emotional stories donโt matter.

If youโre donating your time, your money, or your trustโฆ

โWhere does the money go?
โWhat are the outcomes?
โIs the organization transparent about its numbers?
โAre animals receiving appropriate veterinary care?
โWhere are the animals staying?
โAre they addressing the problems creating the need for rescue or only responding once the emergency is already here?

Because if weโre only treating todayโs emergencies without preventing tomorrowโs, weโre running on a treadmill.
๐The animals keep coming.
๐The shelters keep filling.
๐The suffering keeps repeating.

Support organizations that are transparent.
โ
Support organizations that welcome accountability.
โ
Support organizations that are working to reduce the need for rescue, not just responding to it.
And understand that not all rescues are created equal.
We know this work isnโt easy. We know organizations are stretched thin, resources are limited and sometimes incredibly difficult decisions have to be made.
But weโve also seen the fallout when the word โrescueโ becomes enough to stop people from asking questions.
It shouldnโt be.
Accountability isnโt an attack on rescue.
Itโs part of responsible rescue.
Because the goal shouldnโt be to build a bigger rescue.
