My girl Maggie Moo/Mags💕
Maggie is a fellow Jersey girl, who came down from Newark when got word that her breeder was giving her up. After pumping her with steroids her whole life to produce them litter after litter (I heard potentially 12 litters by the time she was 7), she was given up in the roughest shape.
I’ll never forget the night I picked Maggie up from FNF’s club house- a place where it is often a dog’s first safe place as volunteers work day and night to make their transition from past life to the good life.
Maggie was snoring away in a crate and when we woke her up, I saw her body for the first time. Because she was bred to be whatever the hell they wanted her to be (pocket pittie/bulldog with cropped ears) she is challenged at getting around. Her front bowed arms make it hard for her to walk and when she does make the effort, her bulldog snout makes it hard for her to breathe. Her nails were so long she was sliding all over the place. It was clear that she hadn’t had a bath in a very long time, I thought she was blind with her eyes so full of gunk, and she was constantly straining to p*e with blood in her urine.
After two failed rounds of antibiotics and an ultrasound, we discovered that Maggie is riddled with cancer in her bladder. I had hope there was more we could do, fundraise for care and get her better but it wouldn’t be fair to put her through chemo at her age. There is no timeline but she’s on a pain management plan and supplements to keep her comfortable.
Maggie will be living out the end of her life with Murphy and I, as my first hospice foster. 🥹 Thinking back to that first night about 2 months ago, I can’t even believe the progress she has made. She’s such a happy girl who loves toys, jumps up on the couch, gets soo excited for her meals, loves her stroller rides, and is so affectionate. I am grateful for FNF for giving her this opportunity to experience what it’s like to be taken care of.
If you’ve helped me to help Maggie, I am so thankful for you too. She has many people around her to show her what this life should be.💛
