Puppy Training Starts Earlier Than You Think!

Many people think training begins once a puppy is older, but learning starts the moment your puppy comes home. Every interaction is teaching them something, whether it's good habits or unwanted ones!

Focus on:
✔️ Building confidence
✔️ Rewarding calm behavior
✔️ Positive socialization experiences
✔️ Potty training consistency
✔️ Teaching basic skills like sit, come, and settle

The goal isn't a perfectly obedient puppy overnight. It's creating a strong foundation that will last a lifetime. Small training sessions, patience, and lots of positive reinforcement can make a huge difference.

When practicing "Down":

Did you know Boykin Spaniels were bred to work all day in the field? Their intelligence, energy, and eagerness to please make them fantastic training partners, but they also need an outlet for that busy brain!

Training isn't just about teaching commands. For active breeds like the Boykin, training provides mental enrichment, builds confidence, and strengthens the bond between you and your pup!

Start small:
✔️ Short duration
✔️ Low distractions
✔️ Reward often

Success comes from building confidence step by step.

Remember: breaking the stay just means the exercise was too hard, not that your dog is being “bad.” Training should feel like a win for both of you.

Look at Gigi on a socialization adventure through Lowe's! Nothing tests your "leave it" cue like an aisle full of garden hoses.

Loud sounds, forklifts, carts rolling by, strangers asking to say hi, it's basically a real-world training course wrapped in lumber and paint samples.

Tips for your next Lowe's adventure:
