Katie has had many medicated baths in her time with National Wheaten Rescue, but today was her first full groom thanks to Dandi Pawz 🥳🎉 Considering just a few months ago she was missing at least 50% of the hair on her body due to the neglect of her former owner and allergies, this is MONUMENTOUS!

We try to improve the quality of the lives of all the Wheatens who come through rescue. With Katie there is no doubt whatsoever that she has improved drastically physically and mentally. Going from major skin bacterial and yeast infections over her whole body, double ear infections, and largely bald due to massive hair loss to gorgeous and ready for her furrever home... Even we are in awe 🙏🏻💖

Katie is available for adoption and is currently located in Charlotte, NC. We would like her to stay within a reasonable distance so as to not further traumatize her with a long transport. Please have an application on file (link in comments) and email [email protected].

I first met Katie in May when National Wheaten Rescue reached out about a foster who needed medicated baths twice a week for some serious skin issues and hair loss.

Over the next several months, we watched her skin become softer and healthier, her irritation clear up, and—little by little—her hair begin to grow back!

The first hair that grew back is what I like to call “trauma hair.” It can come in very thick, coarse, and sometimes even a coppery color as the coat recovers after significant skin irritation or damage. As Katie’s hair continued growing, I started seeing her true coat and color coming in underneath it!

Yesterday, Katie finally received her first full groom! we were able to cut away so much of that old, damaged coat. She looks like a whole new dog. 🥹🩷

Watching Katie’s transformation, both physically and mentally, has been incredibly special. She is the sweetest girl, and seeing her become healthier, happier, and more comfortable over these past few months has been so rewarding.

She’s ready for the next part of her story. Katie is currently available for adoption through National Wheaten Rescue ! We would all LOVE to see this super sweet girl find the amazing forever home she deserves. 🐾💕
