FINALLY SOME GOOD NEWS ⭐️
Listen rescue is like going rounds with Mike Tyson on a good day. 🤣

Greenville County Animal Care & Control posted Lucy as urgent, had to be out Friday. Her medical notes point to so many unknowns, and of course stress of how much will it cost to find out.

Regardless an amazing foster said, yes and after a few transporters and logistics plotted we learned that we got this.

Lucy had an ultrasound, thanks to the incredible traveling vet who does them while we braced for impact…

Is she hospice?
Is it cancer?
Is she in pain?

We had SO many questions and fears because this young and perfect gal, deserved more. We spent the $825 on the ultrasound and prayed HARD!

Heck, she deserved a new name and guess what the foster picked, Dolly! 🤣🙌

Well today, is Dolly’s day. She has a benign cyst and ready to rock n roll, Dolly style.

Dolly’s report card so far:
- She’s respectful of small dogs, big dogs, & cats
- She’s great in a home setting
- She is good with chaos
- She can be left alone
- Previous owner says she loves to swim

FROM TABASCO TO FLIP… AND FROM RETURNED TO RESCUED. ❤️

On Monday, we saw an urgent plea for a five-month-old puppy named Tabasco.

He had been adopted from Lexington County Animal Services about a month earlier and was being returned. Initially, we were told it was because he wasn’t potty trained. We later learned the kids were heading back to college and the family simply didn’t have the time for a puppy anymore.

And unfortunately, being returned as an owner surrender can put a dog in an incredibly vulnerable position at an already overcrowded shelter.

Then one of our fosters saw his plea.

She already has a Journey Home foster dog in her home. She could have scrolled past. She could have said, “I wish I could help.”

Instead, she messaged us and said, please get him.

Then another very kind woman stepped up to drive him from Lexington all the way down to us.

And just like that, within a matter of hours, Tabasco was safe with Journey Home Rescue Alliance.

New chapter. New start. New name.

Meet FLIP. ❤️

Flip is just FIVE MONTHS OLD. He’s a puppy. Puppies aren’t born knowing where they’re supposed to potty, how to live in a house, or what humans expect from them. They learn—with time, consistency, patience, and someone willing to teach them.

His first home may not have worked out, but that doesn’t get to be the end of his story.

Because a foster said yes.
Because someone volunteered to drive.
Because people worked together when a puppy needed them.

Flip got his second chance.

And now we get to figure out exactly who this little guy is…and find the family who will make sure his next home is the one that sticks. ❤️

WE SAVE THEM - IN MORE THAN ONE WAY 💔
Aubrey was going to be euthanized for no darn reason. The reason was because the shelter didn’t have space and cherry picks who goes to their adoption floor and who doesn’t.

She arrived Sunday. Our vet saw her and was utterly shocked that she was standing with the strength she had. She was incredibly underweight.

Her exam presented fine and then, true to form, the next day she was in AcutePet Urgent Care presenting with a 104.4 fever, and crackling in her lungs.

It’s typical. They are in survival mode in the shelter. Transport is stressful. New homes are stressful. Then POW!

$1000 later we got x-rays, IV meds and fluids, hours of hospitalization and sent her to the foster knowing it was a 50/50 shot last night that she would not need oxygen and more hospitalization.

THANKFULLY today, she woke up showing us how resilient she is.

BUT this is rescue. 😫

The shelter says they are healthy. The medical never shows a vet saw her. Her and a bunch of others have left the Lexington shelter sick.

It puts the strain on our foster’s, their dogs, our bank account and our hearts. The more we save one life, the less we save others.

Now we get to work on her immunity and weight.

SENIORS NEED RESCUE 💔

Surge and Rose were found together as strays after struggling to survive outside. With the help of caring people, they were finally brought to safety—but their journey is far from over.

Surge and Rose desperately need a rescue or committed foster home—or separate foster homes, if necessary—to give them the safe and quiet environment they deserve. They have already come such a long way and have people ready to continue advocating and helping raise funds for their care. What they need most right now is somewhere safe to go.

Surge and Rose were found together as strays and are currently at Horry County Animal Care Center. They recently had their spay/neuter surgeries, and both tested positive for heartworms. They urgently need rescue placement or foster homes where they can recover and eventually receive heartworm treatment.

Surge:
• Approximately 10 years old
• About 34 pounds
• Corgi/Shepherd mix
• Very friendly with people, dogs and cats

Rose:
• Age currently unknown
• About 65 pounds
• Lab mix
• Friendly with people
• Comfortable with Surge
• Has lived peacefully around cats

They previously spent one week in a foster home with cats and did well. Surge is known to be friendly with other dogs. Rose has done well with Surge, but her behavior around other dogs has not been fully tested.

Because they survived together as strays and only had each other, they may currently be bonded. However, they rode in separate vehicles to the vet and both did completely fine. Keeping them together would be wonderful, but they can be placed in separate foster homes if necessary. Finding safe placement for both dogs is the priority.

WANT A LITTLE FUN IN YOUR LIFE?🎉
Because Edith is READY to provide it.

This 4-year-old, 38-pound girl was shy and completely shut down in the shelter. Scared, quiet, unsure of everything around her. She landed on the euthanasia list, and thankfully, she made it out.

Wellllll… apparently shelter Edith was just keeping a few things to herself.

Because once she felt safe, THE PERSONALITY ARRIVED. 😂

And we are obsessed.

EDITH’S OFFICIAL ADOPTION REPORT CARD 📝

• Face card: 10/10
• Snuggles: 10/10
• Potty training: 10/10
• Crate time: 9/10
• Car rides: 4/10 — not currently her preferred mode of transportation
• Basic commands: 2/10 — we’re working on academics
• Finding random objects and deciding they are obviously toys: 10/10 with honors

Edith is sweet, affectionate, energetic, silly, and absolutely hilarious. She LOVES to play, loves to snuggle, and now that she’s comfortable, she is making up for lost time and enjoying every bit of her freedom.

She’s still learning the basics and gaining confidence with new things. Getting into the car or crate can make her nervous at first, but once she’s in her crate, she settles beautifully. She’s doing fantastic with potty training and is very eager to investigate all the fun things life outside the shelter has to offer.

Is she polished and proper? Absolutely not.

Is she ridiculously cute, endlessly entertaining, and going to make someone laugh every single day? 100%.

After seeing this girl completely shut down in the shelter, watching her come alive has been the BEST.

Now Edith just needs someone who wants a happy, energetic, funny little sidekick to enjoy life with. ❤️

WE SAID WE WEREN’T PULLING. AND WE MEANT IT. 🐾
Adoptions are slow. We have so many incredible dogs sitting and waiting. Transports are in two weeks given the holiday. And we had a WEEK in rescue.

But then the emails come.
The deadlines come.
The pleas from shelters come.
The pleas for teamwork comes from our fellow rescues who are in the trenches too.
The tags then come from our rescue partners.

And when you know a shelter is euthanizing dogs every single day… how do you say no?
Especially when a foster steps up and says, “I’ll take one.”

So today, three more dogs arrived at Journey Home Rescue Alliance:

🐾 DOVIE | 1 year | Hound mix
🐾 REY (formerly kito) | 5 months

And tomorrow, GIGI | 2 years will join them.

Four dogs we weren’t planning to pull. Four dogs we really didn’t have room to pull.

But fosters stepped up. And because they did, four lives have a way out.

That is what fostering does. When we say fostering saves lives, we aren’t using a catchy rescue phrase. We mean it literally. A foster saying yes creates a space where there wasn’t one before—and sometimes that is the only reason we’re able to say yes when another deadline lands in our inbox. We are so incredibly grateful.

Rescue can be defeating. It is hard to receive these pleas day after day knowing we cannot possibly say yes to every dog. It’s hard when the dogs already in our care aren’t moving. And it’s hard knowing there will always be another email, another deadline and another dog who needs somewhere to go.

But today isn’t about what we can’t do.

Today Lexi, Dovie and Rey are safe.

Tomorrow, Gigi will be too.

Four dogs got their chance because people stepped up and opened their homes. And THAT is something worth celebrating. 🤍

Every adoption opens a door.
Every foster creates a pathway.
Every yes makes room for another life.

Here’s hoping September brings movement. Open doors. New pathways. Open wings. And lots and lots of homecomings.

We can’t save them all. But when there’s a path home, it’s really damn hard not to try. 🤍

The girls had their moment. Now allow us to introduce the distinguished gentlemen of Journey Home, six handsome, eligible bachelors who are officially on the market. And frankly, the dating pool has never looked better.

The sweetest, most handsome man around. Good looks, good heart, total package. Truly, it just doesn’t get much better than Cowboy.

🍷 GRAND PAPPY | 8 years | 30 lbs
Aging like fine wine and somehow getting better with time. Sweet, affectionate, easygoing and basically perfection. No complaints over here. Not one.

🐻 BEAR | 3 years | 78 lbs
A big, handsome Pyrenees mix with brains AND beauty. Bear may be a picky eater, but apparently those standards do not apply when inspecting the trash. Smart, fluffy and just the right amount of mischievous.

🤍 MEEK | 3 years | BIG OLE BOY
Our resident gentle giant. Meek is sweet, affectionate and good with kids, cats AND dogs. He’s basically a giant fluffy teddy bear who would very much like to move into your house.

Jack is our lovable work in progress — and he keeps life interesting! He originally came from a hoarding case, was adopted and later returned when it became clear he needed a little more guidance. He’s working with training now and learning how to be the very best version of Jack. He may not arrive wearing a halo, but this handsome guy is absolutely worth rooting for.

💗 BB | 1 year | 50 lbs
A foster saw BB sitting in the shelter and begged us to save her. She’s shy at first, incredibly affectionate once she feels safe, and quite possibly the prettiest girl in the room.

💗 LONDYN | 6 years | 60 lbs
A foster in the Upstate simply could not let Londyn be euthanized and pulled her under our name. Now she’s made her way to the Lowcountry and is proving exactly what that foster already knew: this girl deserved to live.

💗 MACY | 5 years | 60 lbs
Macy gave birth to her puppies in the shelter, watched her babies get adopted, and then landed on the euthanasia list herself. Thankfully, she made it out and her foster describes her as the easiest foster dog ever.

💗 EDITH | 4 years | 38 lbs
Shut down in the shelter. Saved from euthanasia. And apparently Edith decided she was never being quiet again. 😂 This former wallflower is now a certified wild child packed with personality and s***k.

Sweetie arrived covered in hundreds of fleas with some of the worst matting we’ve ever seen. Today? This gorgeous Pyrenees mix is the definition of resilience. Loving and absolute perfection.

💗 PENNY | 2 years | 54 lbs
Penny and her sister came from terrible living conditions and entered rescue undersocialized and unsure of the world. But Penny has discovered something she REALLY likes: attention and affection.

💗 BINDI | 3 years | 70 lbs
She’s beauty, she’s grace, she is approximately 87% LEGS. 😂 Bindi is super chill, sweet and just an all-around lovely girl.

💗 DOLLIE | 4 years | 44 lbs
Of course our girl named Dollie had to make the girl-power lineup. Saved from euthanasia and fresh out of the shelter, she’s still a little anxious while she figures out this whole new-life thing. But underneath those nerves is one beautiful girl who deserves every bit of it.

And last—but absolutely not least—our mama of TEN. Pretty Girl has been busy being the very best mom while her babies get ready for adoption. Now we need someone to take care of HER. She is currently looking for a foster.
