Vet Tech Week: Yes, Sometimes We Really Are Just Snuggling Pets!

Okay, okay… sometimes we really are just snuggling puppies and kittens! 🥹❤️ But those cuddles are about so much more than getting our daily dose of cuteness.

Making our patients feel safe, comfortable, and loved is an important part of veterinary medicine. We strive to make every interaction as positive and fear-free as possible, whether that means offering treats, giving gentle reassurance, allowing extra time, or simply holding a nervous pet close when they need comfort. 🫶

Building trust with our patients helps strengthen the human-animal bond and creates a better experience for everyone involved. Sometimes, the best thing we can do for a patient isn't a procedure or a treatment; it's showing them that they're safe with us. 🐾

So yes, we love the puppy cuddles and kitten snuggles, but we're also working hard to make sure every patient feels respected, supported, and cared for in those moments.

Vet Tech Week: Celebrating the Work Behind the Scenes! 💙

When people think of veterinary medicine, they often picture us snuggling adorable puppies and kittens all day. And while those moments are definitely a perk of the job, there is SO much more to what we do behind the scenes!

From running diagnostics and examining samples under the microscope to drawing blood, administering treatments, and setting up fluids, veterinary technicians and assistants are constantly working to provide the best possible care for our patients. 🐶🐱

We spend countless hours consulting with doctors, monitoring patients, performing callbacks, communicating with clients, answering questions, filling medications and making sure every patient receives the attention they need. And let's not forget one of the biggest behind-the-scenes tasks of all: CLEANING! 🧹 Disinfecting exam rooms, cleaning kennels, washing instruments, and keeping our hospital safe and sanitary are all essential parts of the job.

There is so much that happens outside of what clients see during their visit. It takes teamwork, skill, compassion, patience, and a whole lot of hard work to keep a veterinary hospital running smoothly.

So this Vet Tech Week, let's celebrate not only the cuddles and cute moments, but also the diagnostics, treatments, late nights, constant cleaning, client communication, teamwork, and all the little things that make a BIG difference in the lives of our patients.

Behind every healthy pet, successful surgery, and comforting moment at the veterinary hospital is a team of dedicated veterinary professionals—and our veterinary technicians are at the heart of it all! 🩺🐶🐱

Veterinary technicians do so much more than most people realize. From monitoring anesthesia and assisting in surgery to performing laboratory tests, taking radiographs, administering treatments, and providing critical nursing care, they play an essential role in nearly every aspect of veterinary medicine.

But their job goes far beyond medical skills. They're the ones comforting nervous patients, advocating for animals who can't speak for themselves, educating pet owners, and providing compassion during some of the most difficult moments in a pet's life. ❤️

🩺🐾 Surgery Spotlight: Noodle! 🐶💙

Meet Noodle, our brave patient who came to us experiencing vomiting and lethargy due to foreign material in their digestive tract.

Cases like Noodle’s highlight the importance of thorough diagnostics, including radiographs (X-rays) and blood work, to help us identify the underlying problem and determine the best course of treatment. Noodle’s radiographs confirmed a gastrointestinal obstruction, meaning surgery was necessary to safely remove the foreign material.

Dr. Morgan stepped in to perform an exploratory surgery and discovered TWO additional pieces of foreign material!

At Bees Ferry Veterinary, your pet’s safety is always our top priority. We have a dedicated team of highly trained employees monitoring patients throughout the entire surgical procedure, helping ensure the highest level of care every step of the way. ❤️

We are SO happy that Noodle is feeling so much better! 🥰🐾

🐾 Happy National Adopt a Shelter Dog Day!

Today, we’re celebrating the pets who find their way into our hearts — and introducing you to Sammich! 💙

Sammich is a sweet 5-year-old Boston Terrier who was adopted by our very own staff member, Haley. Like many adopted pets, Sammich came with a few extra needs, including a diagnosis of heartworm disease.

🦟 What is heartworm disease?
Heartworm disease is a serious and potentially life-threatening condition caused by worms that are transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito. The immature heartworms enter the bloodstream and eventually develop into adult worms that live primarily in the heart and major blood vessels of the lungs.

❤️ How is heartworm disease staged?
Not every heartworm-positive dog has the same degree of disease. Your veterinarian may recommend additional testing to determine how significantly your pet is affected. This can include:
Bloodwork to evaluate overall health and look for complications.
Chest radiographs (X-rays) to assess the heart and lungs for changes associated with heartworm disease.

🩸 Why is annual heartworm testing so important?
Even if your pet takes heartworm prevention year-round, annual heartworm blood testing is still recommended. Heartworm prevention is highly effective, but missed or delayed doses, vomiting after an oral medication, or other factors can leave a pet unprotected.

🐾💕 HAPPY TAILS, MAGNOLIA! 💕🐾

Please join us in congratulating Magnolia (formerly known as Mamma Mia) on finding her forever home with the BEST cat mom!

Magnolia has been living upstairs at Bees Ferry Veterinary Hospital for the past few months, patiently waiting for her perfect family to come along. Little did she know, her future mom was right downstairs! 🥹❤️

Meet Grace! Grace joined our team a few months ago and has already showed us what a shining star she is. When her cat, Goose, came to stay with us for a week, he and Magnolia quickly became inseparable. Apparently, they had already decided they were going to be siblings before anyone else got a say!

It didn't take long after bringing Magnolia home for Grace and her other cat Phoebe to realize that Goose was right all along. Magnolia was the perfect addition to their little family!

We couldn't be happier that Magnolia found her forever home with someone who already knows and loves her so much.

Congratulations to Grace, Goose, Phoebe and Magnolia! We love a happy ending, especially when it happens right here at Bees Ferry!

We couldn’t be happier that these two sweet boys get to spend forever with someone who already loved and cared for them so much. 🥰
