UPDATE #2: CADBURY IS HOME! 🤎🎉
Thanks to the wonderful staff at KVVEH, Cadbury was monitored throughout the night, her transfusion has held wonderfully, and she was cleared to go home with her foster!
She’s currently a little sleepy, wobbly, and telling us exactly how she feels about being poked and prodded 😂 In true Cadbury fashion, she talked the entire ride home, and after giving the veterinary team one heck of a night, she immediately wanted pets and was rubbing against everything! Once she fully recovers from being sedated most of the day, she’ll have a whole room to explore 🤎
Her KVVEH bill was $327.99, bringing her total veterinary expenses to $1,195.49.
Thank you to every clinic involved, Cadbury’s incredible blood donor, and everyone who has donated, shared, and prayed for our chocolate girl! ❤️
UPDATE #1: Cadbury is with KVVEH for the night and we need to raise at least $1,200 to cover the cost of her care 🙏🏼 Please share!!
Miss Cadbury made it to safety just in time 💔
Shortly after the devastating flooding in our area last month, a beautiful chocolate-brown stray appeared in a little holler near one of our foster homes. Over the next few days, Cadbury began trusting her foster and was finally brought safely inside to become an IBKC foster.
Today, Cadbury went to Fix'Em Clinic for what we thought would be a routine neuter.
First surprise: our little “chocolate boy” is actually a chocolate GIRL! 😂🤎
But the next surprise was much more serious. The veterinary team noticed that Cadbury’s gums were extremely pale, and testing showed that her red blood cell level was only 7. She was severely anemic and needed an immediate blood transfusion.
Thanks to the quick action of our team, Cadbury was transferred to Dunbar Animal Hospital, where an incredible donor was found and she received what may have been a lifesaving blood transfusion. Her level has already risen from 7 to 15, which is very encouraging! She is now being transferred to the Kanawha Valley Veterinary Emergency Hospital for fluids, further testing, and continued monitoring overnight.
Cadbury’s medical expenses have already reached $867.50 ($322.50 for her initial care at Fix’Em and $545 at Dunbar) and we are still awaiting the estimate from the emergency hospital.
What began as helping a friendly stray get fixed and prepared for adoption has suddenly become a fight to save her life... Cadbury survived an unknown amount of time outside while quietly battling something far more serious than anyone realized. Thankfully, she found her way to safety when she needed it most 🤎
🙏 If you are able, please consider donating toward Cadbury’s emergency veterinary care, continued testing and treatment, and eventually her spay and routine vetting once she is healthy enough. No donation amount is too small.
