What are your thoughts on People’s Choice awards at Top 10 / Top 20 Gala Evening events? Does your breed give awards besides Judges’ Choice and People’s Choice? What are your thoughts on those awards?

I’m hearing that there have been discussions at CSCA Board Meetings about eliminating the Clumber Top 10 Gala People’s Choice Award.

At Top Gala Events:
• The rankings recognize the dogs that earned the points throughout the year, dogs are invited to the event based on those rankings.
• Judges’ Choice represents a panel of judge’s opinion on that night.
• People’s Choice puts the decision in the hands of the audience, making them feel included and invested in the event.

Maybe some see it as a popularity contest, but it is also one of the few opportunities for spectators to actively participate rather than simply watch. People’s Choice recognizes the dog and team that connected with the entire room.

In a time when clubs are constantly looking for ways to increase participation, attendance, and member engagement, it seems strange to eliminate one of the few awards created to encourage all three.

If the concern is that the same people win, the answer isn’t to remove the award. The answer is to encourage more participation.

Invite your friends. Encourage more people to attend the National Events and the Gala Evening. Help fundraise for the club while building a stronger community around the breed. Attend to celebrate the breed. Be included in the evening. Vote for your People’s Choice!

I am concerned that membership feedback does not appear to be a priority before changes like this are considered. Decisions that affect traditions and member engagement should be discussed openly, and the voices of the membership should be heard before those traditions are removed behind closed doors.

If you feel eliminating the People’s Choice Award is the wrong decision, I encourage you to reach out to the CSCA Board and voice your opinion. Email [email protected] and ask for your message to be forwarded to the entire CSCA Board.

I’d love to hear what traditions your breed clubs have created to make Top 10 and Top 20 events more engaging, memorable, and inclusive for exhibitors and spectators alike. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. 🤍

Celebrating some outstanding Rainsway Clumber OFA results rolling in 🩻🎉

This year we’ve had:
🌟 THREE OFA EXCELLENT Hips
🌟 FOUR OFA GOOD Hips
🌟 One OFA FAIR Hips
🌟 8 passing OFA NORMAL Elbows
… am I dreaming? 💫

Hip and elbow health is something I care so much about. Genetics matter, but so do the countless environmental factors that shape growing puppies during their first weeks, months, and years of life.

We make the best decisions we can with breeding pairings… and then we spend those first 24 months setting our puppies up for success — and then we still need a little luck. Especially in a giant dwarf breed, there are so many environmental factors we battle.

A few of the environmental factors we focus heavily on for developing joints, hips, and elbows include:
✨ Mother’s nutrition during pregnancy
✨ Careful puppy growth rates & nutrition from birth through adulthood; low protein, all-life stages diet
✨ Supportive whelping box setup during those critical first weeks
✨ Appropriate footing, traction, and enrichment as puppies begin moving and exploring
✨ Thoughtfully designed puppy pen setups to encourage safe movement
✨ Gradual outdoor exposure to shock-absorbing surfaces like pea gravel and grass
✨ Avoiding excessive impact, hard and slippery flooring during critical early growth
✨ Age-appropriate exercise and muscle development through adolescence

The Rainsway fairy made the rounds in Kalamazoo for Clumber Spaniel Fanciers of Michigan Specialty Week ✨

A little surprise for our Clumber owners, and an extra birthday surprise for our favorite Toasty, Jelly and Biscotti owner, Alison Chamberland! 🧡🥳

So proud of our owners who make the effort to travel to specialties, the 5 Clumber Regional Clubs around the country hold the most important show weekends for our small breed.

Two of us drove over 30 hours to be here, three drove 10 hours, and a few lucky ones who are a normal 2-3 hrs away 🚙💨

Thank you to the CSFM for hosting a great Specialty weekend here year after year!

A very special go-home day for our Fig 💜

Today we made the trip to Iowa to deliver our sweet Figgy to her new parents, Kody and Sarah.

This was an especially difficult go-home decision, but I knew as soon as I met them last month that this was exactly where Figgy was meant to be. I was not looking for a home for her, but I had that gut feeling that these were her people. She will especially help fill their hearts after the loss of their precious St Bernard, Ham.😭🥹

I am so excited to watch her become the most spoiled princess, everything she deserves and more. 👑

Unbelievably proud of Hayley Tamburello and 🍽️Victoria💫, for earning their first two qualifying Junior Hunter legs at the 2026 Clumber Spaniel Club of America National Hunt Test, and making a little Rainsway history as the first Rainsway-bred Clumber to earn official American Kennel Club hunt test legs. 🧡🌟

Victoria has people in the hunting world talking from coast to coast, too. A few weeks ago, while Darcy was helping at another PNW hunt test, there was excited talk about a promising young Clumber training on the East Coast… and that turned out to be Victoria. A special thank you to the talented trainers who have been working with Hayley and Victoria in this journey!

Hayley, watching this journey has been so special. From you once telling me you would never raise a litter yourself… to having a whelping box in your bedroom and raising Esme’s litter, including Victoria. From “I will NEVER touch a dead bird” to proudly beaming when your darling girl phenomenally flushes and retrieves one in the field. 🤍

And somehow, in the middle of all of this, Victoria is also nearly Hayley’s first bred-by Champion in the show ring. A Clumber girl who can do it all!

What an exciting future ahead for these two. So excited to finally share some of these hunt test photos from the National. 🧡🦆

Pivoted, backtracked to Utah, and am headed for the warmer, more safe, open road, southern scenic route through Colorado now 🚙💨

Packing a very special go-home bag before hitting the road to the Clumber Spaniel Fanciers of Michigan Specialties in Kalamazoo. 💜

Sending adult dogs into their next chapter is one of the hardest parts of breeding for me… but sometimes a home comes along when you aren’t even looking, and you just feel it’s meant to be.

And somehow… the most perfect toy also appears to send this special jelly daughter off. 🎒🥪🍇🥹

Not a normal breeder… a FUN breeder who schedules back-to-back OFA health testing days across 9 dogs 🥳🐾

✅ OFA CAER Eyes done yesterday! Thank you Bernese Mountain Dog Club of America for holding All-breed health clinics at your National in Albany.

✅ Hips, Elbows & Cardiacs done today thanks to Dr Hughes and our favorite vet team at Newberg Veterinary Hospital! Thank you McKenna and Asha for helping Clumber wrangle 💕
