We’re proud to support the veterinary ophthalmology community beyond the exam room! 👁️💙

This year, our practice sponsored a special event for the children of members attending the annual American College of Veterinary Ophthalmology meeting. We were thrilled to help bring some extra magic to the event by sponsoring an actress to entertain the kids as Cinderella! ✨👑

It was a small way for us to give back to the veterinary ophthalmology community as colleagues gather to continue their education, share knowledge, and learn about the latest advancements in our field.

We’re grateful to be part of a community that continues to learn, grow, and support one another!

Not every eye problem starts with the eye itself. 👁️

Abnormal eyelid conformation or eyelashes can rub against the surface of the eye, causing irritation, discomfort, and even corneal ulcers.

Charleston Animal Eye Specialists offers corrective eyelid surgery to address abnormal eyelid positioning and remove problematic eyelashes when needed—helping protect your pet’s eyes and keep them comfortable. 🐾

Most corneal ulcers can heal with medical treatment, but some can become infected and progress deeper into the cornea. Deep ulcers can weaken the cornea and potentially lead to perforation or rupture of the eye.

When surgery is needed, our ophthalmology team may graft tissue into deep or perforated ulcers to help protect the eye and preserve vision.

Cataracts can cause progressively blurred vision and, when the entire lens is affected, may result in blindness.

Charleston Animal Eye Specialists offers cataract surgery for appropriate candidates. Before surgery, pets undergo specialized testing to evaluate the eyes and determine whether surgery is a good option.

These tests may include ocular ultrasound, electroretinography, gonioscopy, and blood work. 🐶🐱👁️

Glaucoma can be painful and may lead to vision loss, making early evaluation especially important. 👁️

Gonioscopy is a specialized technique that allows our team to examine the drainage angle of the eye and assess your pet’s risk of developing glaucoma.

If your pet is at risk for glaucoma, specialized ophthalmic testing can help us better understand their eyes and determine appropriate care.
