Chester Update!!

He went to a specialist today to see if there’s anything to be done about his sniffly snuffly self. The short answer is this is likely something Chester is just going to have to live with and we’ll try to give him some relief through intermittent steroids and antibiotics.

The long answer is, that the two most likely reasons he could be having these symptoms are 1) a nasal tumor which can be confirmed by a VERY expensive (talking thousands) CT scan and nasal scoping procedure 2) could just be rhinitis and is just a constant thing that will flare up from time to time

Of course I wanted to hear that there was something more to DO for him, even if we spent thousands of dollars to decipher if he has a tumor or not we would either be spending a lot of money to find out there’s a tumor that could only be treated with radiation (which has a 10k-15k price tag itself) with mixed results on how much time that would buy him….or it could rule out the possibility of a tumor and let us know that the way Chester is right now is just the way he is. So we opted to treat this like it’s rhinitis and be vigilant with any symptoms that could change to indicate cancer/a tumor.

I’m glad he went today so I know we did our due diligence on what the best next steps are…and I feel comfortable choosing to try to give him relief through medicine knowing that if it seems later that perhaps this has been cancer/a tumor all along then we can make sure his life is comfortable here at Mini Meows HQ for as long as possible. I’m hopeful this isn’t cancer because Chester’s symptoms have stayed very steady over the last 6 months and my understanding which a tumor is that he would have been worsening with time, but nevertheless we will remain diligent in monitoring him and see how this period of antibiotics and steroids does for him!

Rosie graduated to once a week injections for the month of September after having to get an injection every four days in the month of August.

She is surely very happy about this development (along with Sean who has been in charge of all the injections to date 👏🏽)

Thank you to whoever sent Rosie another blue ball. It didn’t come with a note, but it always makes Rosie so happy. And look how cute she was patiently waiting for it 🥹

Mr. Chester is still feeling a bit out of it from his procedure today, but he’s taking it easy and snoozing on his beloved shark bed.

We’re so appreciative to everyone that donated towards his vet bill and so happy to say it was fully covered which is always a relief.

Our fingers are crossed we’ll get answers from his culture on what’s causing this chronic congestion. We just want Chester to be comfortable. We’re glad kidney disease and diabetes were ruled out on this bloodwork, but I am still curious what could be the cause of Chester’s seemingly unusual amounts of urination….but for now we’ll just invest in a bigger litter box and more litter for him to use!

Chester was anemic on his bloodwork, which he was when he came to us and the vet was curious about if this is just a norm for Chester from some underlying chronic disease. Our plan is to follow up on that in a month or so and see if that stays steady or fluctuates.

Chester’s very much like “THIS PLACE AGAIN?!?!?”

He’s all dropped off for his appointment for a nasal flushing & culture (to see if there’s a specific bacteria that can target that stubborn snot) and bloodwork to see if we can get some insight on his increased thirst and urination.
