The PAWS Humane Society (Floyd County Humane Society) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that works closely with the Charles City Police Department. We strive to encourage humane care and treatment for the animals we shelter and see that their interests and well-being are humanely protected by an aware and caring society. All the animals in our shelter are stray with a story we may never know. Some

of them unwanted and have been abandoned, while still perfect in all the important ways. Many have been cast aside by their owners. Some owners didn’t have enough time. Some dogs were surrendered because they barked too much, others because they didn’t bark enough. We don’t always know the reason why these animals are brought to us and never claimed, but we’re here to show them that they’re worth saving. The one thing all these animals have in common is that each is hoping for you to bring them home and give them a loving new family. We hope you will help us help them.

Trainer tip of the day!
From Kelsie, I’m just here to remind you that even though you don’t know everything about dogs and their behavior, you’re doing a lot of things right. The things you are doing well are your strengths, and we can build on those endlessly, as even I have endless learning to do.
Part of the journey for me early on was letting go of micromanaging my dogs. If we’re all safe and having a good time, why not let your dog prance around you when you’re distracted by your phone? Who says they have to be in a down stay or never try to get your attention?
Maybe some things you view as mistakes are not actually a big deal. However, because many "authorities" people are exposed to would never allow this type of behavior, it is easy to feel like you are doing something wrong, but it is not your fault.
I also want to remind you that I am offering free video analysis until November 1st for PAWS adopters. This is a service I usually charge for or reserve for paying clients, so now is your chance to get professional help with behavior and body language analysis. We can build on your strengths, focus on positive instruction, and sharpen your observation and timing skills, depending on what you are looking for.

Ellie girl had such a fun morning! She made her KCHA News debut and then went and found some friends at the Floyd County Extension and Outreach office! She’s definitely a Cyclones fan now 💛❤️💛❤️

This girl is so sweet and loving, she made herself right at home on the couch at KCHA 🤣🤣 She’s on the older side, but still very active and has quite a bit of energy. She gets excited around cats and would do well in a home with kids and other dogs. 🐕
