🐾 Juniper Update! 🐾

We received a wonderful update on Juniper, and it sounds like she’s settling into her new life perfectly! ❤️

Her family says she is becoming more confident every day. Those loud, scary noises that once made her nervous are no longer such a big deal, and she’s learning that the world isn’t so frightening after all.

Juniper has also discovered one of life’s greatest treasures: sticks! 🌳🐶 Big sticks, little sticks, all the sticks—she loves them all.

And like any happy dog, she’s already claimed a few favorite napping spots around the house where she can relax and dream about her next adventure.

Watching our former shelter pets grow in confidence and comfort is one of the best parts of rescue. We’re so happy for you, Juniper, and grateful to your family for sharing this update! ❤️🏡

🎉 BIG NEWS FOR CASSIE! 🎉

Thanks to all of your votes, shares, and support, Cassie finished **5th in Iowa** in the Pet Lovers' Choice Awards! ❤️🐾

While we narrowly missed an automatic spot in the National Finals, Cassie has been given a **second chance** through the Wildcard Round!

📅 Wildcard voting begins June 26 and runs through July 2.

The best part? Everyone starts at **ZERO votes**, meaning it's a completely fresh competition. Cassie will be placed in a group of approximately 20 contestants, and the top pet in each group will advance to the National Grand Final.

We know we've asked a lot of our amazing supporters over the past several weeks, and we can't thank you enough for helping Cassie make it this far. Now it's time to take a short breather, recharge, and get ready for one more push!

🚨 DID YOU KNOW SOUTHERN IOWA IS A HEARTWORM HOTSPOT? 🚨
While the heartworm positive rate sits at about 1% statewide, data from the Companion Animal Parasite Council (CAPC) shows that counties in southern and southeastern Iowa—including Lucas, Wayne, and Monroe—frequently spike to between 1.5% and 2.5%+.
Here is the alarming reality for our local communities:

* 📊 100 to 150 dogs in a typical southern Iowa town are estimated to test positive for heartworm.
* 🔍 Only about 30% of local dogs are ever officially tested, meaning the true numbers are likely much higher.
* 🚜 Untested farm dogs and outdoor pets frequently miss annual clinical screenings. Without prevention, they face high transmission rates and quietly act as active reservoirs for the parasite.

Because of our local timber pockets, state forests, and river basins, our mosquitoes are out in full force. A single bite can pass this life-threatening parasite from an untested neighbor dog to your beloved pet.
The good news? Heartworm is 100% preventable. Catching it early saves lives and avoids thousands of dollars in painful treatments.
