No foot, no horse

Behind every sound horse is a skilled farrier. Farriers do far more than trim feet and pound nails in shoes — they play a huge role in a horse’s comfort, performance, and long-term soundness.

A good farrier understands balance, movement, and how each horse uses its feet for the job it does, whether that’s ranch work, arena work. Proper hoof care can prevent lameness, improve stride, and even extend a horse’s career.

Farriers work in all weather, handle tough horses, and bring years of knowledge to every trim or shoeing. They’re problem-solvers, craftsmen, and a vital part of every horse’s team.

In the performance world, hoof care isn’t optional — it’s everything. A skilled farrier can be the difference between a horse that just gets by and one that reaches its full potential.

Performance horses ask more of their feet: tighter turns, harder stops, longer strides, and faster acceleration. Proper balance, correct angles, and thoughtful shoeing protect joints, tendon’s and supports longevity, in the performance world, hoof care isn’t optional — it’s everything!

When it comes to winning runs and longer careers, it always comes back to the feet.

Our performance need the very best and we are so thankful we have the best!

This is why we are so thankful to have our own farrier, but he’s not just a farrier to us he’s a c**t starter, team roping partner and the person who keeps our horses going!

Since 2026 foaling and breeding season is just around the corner. I have debated on posting about this for a long time, but i have decided to share some thoughts about being a small breeder and how it’s not always easy.

The ugly side of breeding horses. Not that I want to discourage anyone from breeding horses but it’s truly not for the weak.

Yes everyone loves the baby foal photos.
The fuzzy ears.
The first wobbly steps.
The cute “look what was born today” posts.

But here’s what almost nobody shows you.

Breeding is stress.
Breeding is sleepless nights.
Breeding is standing in a barn at 2 a.m. wondering if your mare is going to survive foaling.

It’s watching a mare colic from hormone shifts.
It’s losing a pregnancy after months of doing everything right.
It’s vet bills that don’t stop.

In 2019 I tired to bred a mare that came from my families breeding program, she would always collect fluid after being AI and then the 14 day heartbreat check would come around and there would be nothing. I tired to bred that mare for the following couple years to different studs AI and live cover she never took. Then in 2024 we bred both our best mares.
Deal Me A flashlight aka Cadillac bred to Irish Pay who ened up losing her foal just 4 short days after it was born.
Punkin Ninner Proof aka Barbie bred to Maximum Gun who lost her foal just 6 short days after It was born. We ended up doing a necropsy on Barbies foal and ened up with the conclusion both foals ended dying from clostridium.
We were beyond devastated.
It’s heartbreaking watching a mare loses her baby.

I grew up in a family who raises horses, so for me it’s the only thing I know. And now that I’ve gotten older its how i want to raise my daughter because getting to watch a foal be born and then getting to start that foal and make it something is the most rewarding feeling out there.

So if you’re breeding, do it with purpose — not just because you can.

We are praying 2026 is a WAY better year for us!

PUNKIN NINNER PROOF ( Barbie) is bred back to Maximum Gun (PlayGun) for an April 1st baby!!! And if all things go according 2027 Barbie will be expecting a The Notorious B I G baby!!! The excitement for that baby is unreal!!!

Mentally Ready C**ts

It’s a very controversial topic starting c**ts but very one has their own opinion. For us we start all our c**ts as two years, not going off their actual birthday date but off the year they were born just like AQHA does.
Of course there is plenty of things to think of when it comes to stating a young one like are they big enough, do they have the correct foundation.
Some horse are mentally more mature than others but also a lot of making a horse mentally ready is the ability of the person starting the horse. Starting a young horse requires lots of confidence in stalled to both the horse and rider, the more confident the horse is with the rider the more the horse will exceed! The mental capacity of a horse depends on the ability of the person riding the horse.

You're not working on the horse,
You're working on yourself. -Ray Hunt
