Yesterday, HART rescued sweet Sissy from a high-kill shelter. ❤️ At 10+ years old and just 15–20 pounds, this little Beagle mix never should have had to spend a day in a shelter, confused and unsure of what was happening to her. We saw this photo and heard her story, and we got Sissy out as fast as we could. Sissy was surrendered by her owner and seemed so lost in the noisy, unfamiliar environment. She spent her days curled up in her little bed, wrapped in her fleece sweater, just trying to feel safe. 😢

Sissy is a sweet, gentle little girl who is easy to handle and deserves so much better than the ending she nearly faced. She has some medical needs we'll be addressing, but for now, she can rest, get comfortable, and know that she is loved and cared for. Welcome to HART, sweet Sissy. Your story isn't over. ❤️

National Dog Day is celebrated every August 26 to recognize the love dogs bring into our lives, promote adoption and honor the working dogs that help people every day.🐾❤️🐾 It’s the perfect day to give your own dog an extra treat, remember a beloved four-legged friend🌈 or time at the dog-park. 🦴✨🐾🐶

Our dogs go through training treats fast. Every visitor grabs a handful before heading back to meet the dogs in our kennels — it's one of the easiest ways to make a great first impression on a shelter dog, and we're running low.

Here's what helps most:

🥩 Soft, meat-based treats (dry & bready ones aren't a hit)
🚫🍗 Chicken-free is a huge plus — more dogs can enjoy them
📦 Unopened only, please, so we can double check ingredients

🇺🇸 Happy Fourth of July! 🇺🇸

Longest-stay resident Bruno here, feeling very festive and patriotic as he celebrates America’s big day the way any red-blooded American dog should: lounging in the pool while keeping a close eye on the squirrel population. 😎💦🐿️

We’re especially grateful for the foster homes, volunteers, supporters, and adopters who help dogs like Bruno enjoy days like today while they wait for their families.
