🧈🐐 From Cream to Butter!

We had a delicious time at Farm School today!

After finishing our farm chores, our young farmers turned into dairy scientists for the afternoon! 🥛🔬

We explored the differences between milk, cream, whipped cream, and butter. Then everyone got to work shaking jars of heavy cream to make their very own butter!

There was a LOT of shaking involved! 💪😂

Once our butter was ready, we experimented with different flavors, including cinnamon honey, garlic herb, and classic salted butter. And of course, the best part was taste testing our creations! 😋

We also made fresh whipped cream and discovered how one ingredient can turn into so many different things.

That's what Farm School is all about — learning by DOING! ❤️

Our Halloween Goat Yoga Party is THIS SATURDAY, October 17th at 2 PM! 🎃

🌾 Happy National Farmers Day! 🌾

Farming has been part of my family for generations, and it's a heritage I'm incredibly proud of.

My roots are in Illinois, where my family's farm, Stevens Farms, has passed through generations. My grandfather, then my dad and uncle, and now my brother and cousin have all carried on the tradition of growing crops and working the land.

Growing up around agriculture taught me the value of hard work, dedication, and caring for something bigger than yourself. But while my family's passion was in the fields, mine was always with the horses. 🐴

That passion eventually led to Blue Heron Farm here in Indiana. Our farm looks quite different from the large crop farm I grew up around! Instead of acres of corn and soybeans, our days revolve around horses, dairy goats, chickens, rabbits, and sharing farm life with others.

One of the most unexpected joys has been discovering how much I love teaching children about animals and agriculture. Through our riding academy, Farm School, camps, and farm experiences, I get to share a little of the appreciation for farm life that I grew up with. 💙

Farming comes in so many different forms. From the families raising crops that feed the world to small farms like ours helping connect the next generation with agriculture, each has its own place and purpose.

Today I'm grateful for the generations who came before me, proud of my family continuing their farming legacy in Illinois, and thankful for the opportunity to build our own little piece of agriculture here in Indiana.

Happy National Farmers Day to everyone who calls farming a way of life! 🌾🐐🐴

🎃💥 Pumpkin Science + Goat Pumpkin Smash!

October Farm School kicked off yesterday, and this one was a FUN one!

Our Farm School kids started with their regular farm chores before diving into some pumpkin science. They made predictions, weighed and measured their pumpkins, tested whether they would sink or float, cut them open, investigated what was inside, and counted LOTS of seeds!

And then came the best part…

We stuffed all those seeds and pumpkin guts right back inside, headed to the goat pasture and CHUCKED the pumpkins over the fence! 😂🎃🐐

The goats were more than happy to take care of the rest of our experiment.

This is exactly what Farm School is all about — real farm chores, hands-on learning, getting a little messy, and having a whole lot of fun while we're at it.

Next week: 🧈 Dairy Lab — we're making butter!

We still have single-class registration available for our remaining October Farm School classes. Ages 7–12 | Tuesdays, 4–5:30pm | $30 per class.
