🦆 BIG NEWS FOR THE RETRIEVER RESOURCE!

I’m incredibly excited and honored to announce that I’ve been invited to join the Bass Pro Shops Local Pro Staff and partner The Retriever Resource with our local Bass Pro Shops right here in Tyler, Texas!

This one means a whole lot to me.

When I was a kid, I dreamed of the day we’d have a Bass Pro Shops in East Texas. I can still remember taking family road trips all the way to Springfield, Missouri, just to visit what I considered the mecca of all outdoor stores—the original Bass Pro Shops! For a kid who loved hunting, fishing, and everything outdoors, there was nothing else quite like it.

Then, on April 16, 2025, I had the privilege of attending the grand opening of our very own Bass Pro Shops in Tyler. I’ll never forget standing there listening to Johnny Morris himself, a man I genuinely believe is the greatest living outdoorsman and conservationist on earth, share his heart and vision for what Bass Pro Shops could mean to our community. I’ll admit, I got a little emotional that evening. Having grown up dreaming about a store like this coming to my hometown, it was pretty special to see the man who started it all standing right here in East Texas, investing in the community I love.

And now, a year and a half later, I’ve been invited to partner my little retriever kennel with one of the most recognizable names in the outdoor industry. That’s something I never would have imagined as a kid!

But what excites me even more is what I’ve already seen Bass Pro Shops doing right here in East Texas.

In the short time they’ve been here, I’ve watched them make incredible investments in our local outdoor community. They’re not just selling hunting and fishing equipment. They’re supporting local events, investing in conservation, introducing young people to the outdoors, and helping preserve the traditions that so many of us grew up loving.

That’s the kind of organization I’m proud to stand alongside.

I’ve spent years doing what I love—training hunting dogs, helping people enjoy the outdoors with their four-legged hunting partners, and sharing my passion for bird hunting and sh***un sports. Having the opportunity to do those things alongside Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s is truly an honor.

And we’re kicking things off soon!

📍 Bass Pro Shops — Tyler, Texas

📅 Friday, November 6th

I’ll be at the store with one of my dogs, visiting with folks, talking retriever training, bird hunting, sh***un sports, and pretty much anything else outdoors-related! I’d love for you to stop by, say hello, meet the dog, and hang out for a little while.

A huge thank-you to David Castro and the leadership team at our Tyler Bass Pro Shops for believing in what we’re doing at The Retriever Resource and inviting us to be a part of this program.

I’m genuinely grateful for the opportunity, and I look forward to doing everything I can to support them as they continue supporting the outdoor community that I love so much.

From being a little boy dreaming about having a Bass Pro Shops in my hometown to getting to represent that very store alongside my hunting dogs. Pretty dang cool!

See y’all November 6th!

UPDATE: All Puppies are spoken for….if any of them don’t get picked up by the end of the week, I’ll post an update early next week.

🐾 BLACK LAB PUPPIES — READY TO GO! 🦆

I’ve still got a few Squeaky x Delta puppies looking for the right homes, and I’m ready to make some SERIOUS deals to get these last pups placed.

Squeaky and Delta are both proven, professional guide dogs that spend hunting season doing the real thing. They’re talented, hard-working dogs with great temperaments, and they both come from outstanding retriever pedigrees.

We have several males and one female pick available. They have been wormed, vaccinated, well-socialized, and are READY TO GO HOME NOW.

If you’re here in East Texas, you’re also welcome to come train with us at The Retriever Resource. Come to training days, ask questions, and let me help you through the process as your puppy grows. My goal is to help you take that little black puppy home today and turn it into a dog you’re proud to have sitting beside you on opening day next season. 🦆

And if you decide you want professional training down the road, we can help with that too. But you do NOT have to put your dog in professional training to get my help. If you’re willing to put in the work, I’ll help point you in the right direction every step of the way.

I’m ready to get these last puppies into good homes, so send me a message. You might be surprised at the deal I’m willing to make. 🐾

We have a few puppies left from this litter, ready to go home next week.

These puppies are reasonably priced and should have all the retrieve drive and train-ability you could ask for in a family gun dog.

Send a FB Message or send me a text if you are interested and I’ll get you all the info.

I have had one cancelation this spring and have a rare opening to take a new dog immediately.

If you have a retriever puppy you want to get ready for next hunting season or just a dog (of almost any breed) that needs some obedience training so you can enjoy your time with them, I’d love to help.

My schedule is booked solid through the summer with gun dogs and several older dogs returning for a tune up….this is the time to get started….I may not have another kennel opening in 2026.

Check out my website for program details and pricing and reach out if I can help.

Feel free to tag someone who you know needs help with their dog😎

Jason Huddleston and his dog Remi have just completed the 4 month started gun dog program and they have BOTH put in the work for solid control and retrieve mechanics….they are working great together as a team.

Jason is going to continue to come train with me a couple of times a month thru the spring and summer….they will be more than ready for the dove fields in September!

If you need help getting a dog ready for next season….I will I’ll have a few open kennels for April and May and would love to help you get a handle on your retrieve puppy and build a solid foundation for field work.

Hudson Hykel and Zero were here putting in the work this morning 👊🏼

Zero is fresh out of Force Fetch….we are working on steadiness drills and exposing him to lots of single marks through decoys at various distances and levels of cover.

He is putting it all together really fast….we are already planning his first ‘real hunt’ around Christmas or New Year’s…..which is good because Hudson is tired of having to swim out there and retrieve all the ducks he has been shooting😎

This is six-and-a-half-month-old Shadow, owned by Hunter Holland and Anna Fugate (soon to be Mr. and Mrs. Holland🥰).

Shadow is from a breeding that Toby Ridings and I put together between my personal dog Squeaky and Toby’s personal guide dog Boogie (the most talented, high-drive female I’ve ever had the pleasure of training).

We knew this cross had the potential to be something special, and we were excited to see what both mom and dad would bring to the table.

Shadow has been the perfect example of everything we hoped for. He’s got the retrieve desire, the controllability, and the team-player mindset that make a dog fun to train and even more fun to hunt with. He’s incredibly biddable, and he shows an enormous amount of control for a 6.5-month-old puppy.

We’re now completely finished with obedience, collar conditioning, and force fetch, so we’re on to all the fun field work from here. I cannot wait to see what this dog becomes…he’s the real deal….expect to see lots of pictures with Shadow and piles of 🦆 in the near future.

If anyone bought a puppy out of this breeding, I’m offering 20% off my monthly rate for training. I’d especially love the opportunity to work with a female from this litter. I’ve already got three of the males in the program (or will be seeing them often), so I can keep close tabs on that side of the genetics. But I’d love to see how the temperament and trainability show up in the females as well.

If things continue the way they’re looking, I’m hoping I can talk Toby into repeating this breeding in a year or two. What we’ve got here with Shadow is something special👊🏼

🐾 NOW ACCEPTING NEW DOGS FOR OBEDIENCE TRAINING – LIMITED SPOTS AVAILABLE! 🐾
(All breeds welcome — from Labs to lap dogs, and everything in between)

As we head into the holiday season, this is the perfect time to get your dog into a structured board-and-train program while you’re traveling — and come home to a dog that’s calmer, easier to handle, and an absolute joy to own.

I currently have openings for both of my obedience programs:

⸻

➡️ 2-Week Leash-Only Program

A great reset for dogs that just need solid manners and obedience on leash.
Your dog will learn:
• Sit/Stay
• Here(Recall)
• Heel (Loose leash walking)
• Place (Load Up/Kennel)
• General manners and impulse control

Perfect for young dogs or even older dogs who simply need boundaries and structure.

⸻

➡️ 6-Week Turnkey Off-Leash Program — Complete Board & Train

Your dog leaves fully trained off-leash, working on an electronic collar (included in the price).
When you pick your dog up, you’ll receive:
• A completely trained dog
• Your own e-collar system
• A handler lesson so you know exactly how to maintain everything

This program is designed to give you a dependable, reliable, enjoyable dog for the rest of its life.

⸻

🏆 Why Train With Me?

I’ve been training dogs for 25 years, specializing in duck dogs and gun dogs — Labradors, Golden Retrievers, and other hunting breeds make up about 70% of the kennel.

But I’ve worked with every kind of dog you can imagine:
Terriers, Spaniels, Setters, Collies, German Shepherds, German Shorthairs, Wirehairs, Mastiff breeds, Pyrenees, Pittie mixes, designer mixes — and a few dogs this year that we never could identify, but they left here knowing their name, basic commands, and how to behave.

Every dog is different, but every dog can learn.

⸻

🎄 Holiday Advantage

If you’re traveling for Christmas or are planning to have visitors over the holidays and are worried your dod is going to ruin the visit, drop your dog off with me and turn that time away into the best investment you’ll ever make in your dog’s life.

Proper training makes your dog a blessing — not a liability — whether at home, in public, or around friends and family.

🍁 It’s been a ‘golden’ fall here at Retriever Resource!

We’ve had a blast working with some incredible Golden Retrievers lately.

Ziggy and Seager both wrapped up our All-Breed Obedience Board & Train program with flying colors, and Benny has been putting in the work to get ready for duck season.

Most of our hunting dogs are heading home for the season, which makes now the perfect time to get your dog in for obedience training — especially before the holidays. Whether you’re traveling or just wanting a calmer, more responsive dog around guests, our programs can help.

✅ All-Breed Obedience Board & Train – our most popular program
🐾 Two-Week Leash-On/Leash-Off Program – a great short-term option

If you’re planning holiday travel, it’s the perfect opportunity to drop your dog off for “dog camp” and pick up a dog that’s ready to listen, behave, and go anywhere with you.
