We aren’t sure what everybody else plans to do tomorrow, but I know we plan on making a MASSIVE delivery!!! There is an awesome 48”x30” Macaw stand all the way down to some 24”x20” Cockatiel sized stands. Elevated, flat, single bolt, and double bolts too!!! We will let you know where they are all going when we get there.

Over the years, we have harvested our manzanita in 100 degree weather, rain, snow, thunder and lightning, and we were even stalked by a mountain lion. No, not watched, actually actively stalked. But until today I never felt like I was going to have to take a couple of days off from my full time job. Had this guy not rattled, my next step would have been right on him. He was about 2-3 feet from my foot when he decided to say hello and then went on about his merry little way to the beautiful manzanita I was admiring before we met. Nice meeting you big guy. May our paths never cross again.

The idea of KLR Bird Designs started after we had a little Quaker that was born with severe birth defects. She had a deformed wing and leg and looked all “twisted”, so we affectionately named her Twister. She could not use traditional perches so we made ones she could use. We also have a Lilac Crown Amazon that is blind and have been known for taking in the Amazons “nobody wants”. We just have a soft spot for the “special” ones.

Recently, we were contacted by a potential client that was looking for a stand for her 44yo Yellow Nape Amazon that had recently gone blind and struggles with foot issues. She wanted Carmalita to be able to enjoy a full sized stand like every other bird but not have the risk of injury in the event of a fall. Knowing what she was going through and finding that soft spot in our hearts, after some discussion, we decided to make a 30” x 30” base, keep the tallest perch no higher than 36”, “crowd” it with a lot of cross pieces so she never had to “search” for solid footing, and pad the bottom in the event of a fall. We were super excited to see the client’s excitement when we delivered what she was looking for. She felt her Carmalita could still be like other birds while being safe. But what was even more rewarding was seeing Carmalita, sitting on her new stand and IMMEDIATELY come to life, just chatting and exploring to her little heart’s content.
