Here’s something positive to share. A lil recap of my Roots Cut Flower Farm visit in Pennsylvania last month. What was amazing about Michelle‘s farm is that they have narrowed the focus of what they do and because of that they can really do it really well. Only two sales channels: grocery store bouquets (30,000 a year! 🤯) and party buckets. This allows the farm some predictability in the seasonal workflow. Rare- in a line of work that has so many uncertainties.
I really loved learning about the values of this farm and how much they inform decision-making. We saw rows upon rows of beautiful rainbow colors, watched a cute demo of gomphrena harvesting, and hung out together at a cider brewery nearby afterwards.
I was honored to speak on a panel with Michelle and LB Butterbee Farm about farm labor. It was an engaging topic and an attentive group. Such an honor.
Also, loved the down time with my flower farming travel buddy Kari Ruby Moon | Kari Geary and some fellow farmers I really respect. More about Two Boots Farm coming in another post…
