PET INSURANCE!! Let's talk about it. I preach on my page the importance of health testing, but unfortunately even with fully health tested dogs, things can still pop up. Owning a dog is taking on risk. Period. Getting your puppy from an ethical breeder who prioritizes health testing and thoughtful breeding decisions significantly reduces those risks, but it doesn’t eliminate them. Not every condition has a genetic test, and some things simply can’t be predicted. (Life happens! Especially with a Labrador!) That’s one reason most ethical breeders are no longer offering broad “health guarantees.” Instead we provide copies of health testing on our dogs so families can make informed decisions and understand the risks involved. A swallowed foreign object, a torn CCL, or an emergency illness can rack up thousands of dollars in veterinary costs QUICKLY. Since most plans don’t cover pre-existing conditions it is important to get your policy when your puppy is young and healthy before any conditions are considered pre-existing. Do not wait until an emergency happens and you regret not having a policy!!! If you have a policy and recommend the company, please let us know who you use in the comments!
