Niko originally presented with a large oral sarcoma, visible in the first photo. Following his treatment protocol including IV vitamin C and ozone therapies at Animal Wellness Center, the tumor showed an excellent response, with complete resolution of the visible lesion.

Dr. Rose was happy to donate to the Brandywine Hundred Fire Co. Auxiliary to support their upcoming fundraiser! 🚒

Animal Wellness Center donated a Dog Care Basket, including a FREE wellness exam, lots of enriching toys and treats, and a emergency first aid kid for the Brandywine Hundred Fire Co. Auxiliary’s 13th Annual All In Paddle Auction Raffle on November 7th.

We were also proud to donate pet oxygen masks for their first responders to have on hand when pets are involved in an emergency.

We’re grateful for everything our local first responders do for both people and pets. If you’re in the Wilmington area, stop by the fundraiser, have some fun, and help support the fire company!

Meet Niko the wolf dog! ❤️🐺

Many of our clients may recognize this handsome boy from his incredible sarcoma success story. Niko was rescued as a small puppy and thought to be a Great Pyrenees/German Shepherd mix… but it turns out he’s a little more than that! He’s a clever boy with a huge heart, powerful eyes, and a wonderful soul.

Niko was treated here Aug 2022 for a sarcoma cancer on the roof of his mouth and responded spectacularly, with the lesion completely resolving. Now he’s back with us for IVC treatments and has quickly become an AWC favorite. 🐾❤️

Furry Fact Friday

Did you know cats likely cannot taste sweetness? 🐱

Domestic cats are obligate carnivores, meaning they rely almost entirely on meat for their nutritional needs. Because of this, they didn’t evolve a strong need to detect sugars/carbohydrates the way many other animals did. In fact, cats lack a functional “sweet” taste receptor gene, which means they likely can’t perceive sweetness the same way humans and dogs can.

So while your dog might happily enjoy the occasional pup cup, your cat will probably just turn up their nose wondering where the tuna is instead. 🐟
