Thanks to a generous donor, we’re shining a light on Bookmark, a pup who has been waiting six months for a forever home. This donation helps us continue our mission to support shelter pets at Fairfax County Animal Services.

Thanks to a generous donor, we’re able to shine a light on this bonded pair and continue supporting Friends, the fundraising partner for Fairfax County Animal Services.

Apollo (A-61564120) and Phoenix (A-61564120) are two peas-in-a-pod who are looking to join your pack!

Since arriving at the shelter, Apollo and Phoenix are a bit on the shy side and may appreciate a slow approach. In his previous home, he was described as a playful boy who loves fetch and playtime. In an environment that gives him time to adjust, he’s sure to blossom into that playful side!

These two are a bonded pair who can’t imagine life without each other, so they’ll need to be adopted together. Because of this, the adoption fee has been waived for both! Friends is also sending home a $500 senior credit to Pender Vet for Phoenix, who is a senior dog with a few medical issues that will require ongoing assessment and treatment.

“No doubt inspired by the soulful Nina Simone, this lovely lady has quite the singing voice of her own. During her time at the shelter, Bella Simone has been friendly, engaging, and warmly receptive to everyone she meets. She is a curious explorer who loves checking out her surroundings and staying involved in whatever her people are doing. A couch potato, she is not — Bella Simone enjoys keeping herself busy and finding little adventures throughout her day. Bella Simone is recommended to be the only dog in the home for now, simply to give her the best opportunity to settle in comfortably and decompress as she adjusts to her new environment. As she gains confidence and continues to blossom, thoughtful, controlled dog-to-dog introductions can be explored in the future. Avoiding dog parks and high-energy settings will help set her up for success as she learns at her own pace. If you have a dog at home and are considering adding Bella Simone to the pack, you must bring your dog in to meet her.”

Hi, I’m Bookmark! I’m a playful, squeaky-toy-loving pup who’s always ready for an adventure. I love fetch, treats, exploring new places, and making people smile with my goofy personality. I’m still practicing my toy-trading manners, but with patience, positive training, and lots of love, I know I’ll be a fantastic companion.

Hi, I’m Merlin — and I think there might be a little magic in me. ✨ When I first arrived, I needed time, patience, and kindness to help me feel safe. But with gentle people by my side, I started to bloom. I learned that leashes can mean peaceful walks, treats are pretty wonderful, and hands reaching toward me often bring affection. Now, I like to stay close to people I trust. I lean in for pets, sit right beside my friends, and sometimes tuck myself between their legs just so I can be near them. I’m a handsome boy with a tender heart, and I’m still learning how to manage all my big feelings. Sometimes I get so excited that I jump or bounce around — not because I mean any harm, but because I’m happy and still figuring things out. I’ve also shown friendly interest in other dogs, with a loose body, wagging tail, and playful energy, so I may be a good candidate for dog-to-dog introductions. What I need now is a patient, loving home that will give me structure, training, continued socialization, and the chance to keep growing. I’ve already come so far, and with the right family, I know I can truly shine.
