For those with pups out of my most recent litter...
Here at Camp Edgend we have jumped four footed into baby beaver phase of development.
I am attaching links for my favorite chew toys (medium size is best right now) to help you through. If you are not there already, it is coming. Be sure to raise anything you value up and out of puppy reach (hello, TV remote on coffee table) and offer tasty substitutes to chew on.
Again patience is a virtue and take heart, teething generally only lasts a couple weeks.
And as always, remember, a tired puppy is a good puppy.

So looking at my current puppy, and after speaking to someone newer to the breed today, I felt a need to remind myself how far our dogs come from the whelping box to fully mature. Sometimes I forget those gawky in-between stages.

I have assembled a head study of one of the slowest to mature but nicest headpiece that I have had the pleasure to share my home with. Kenai is now 8y old at least physically mature, but his head did not stop broadening until he was 6y. Today he gets a bath and I will try to make him pose for a current photo and add it later today..

These photos are in chronological order to give a nice study of head development and maturity. Also gives some idea of how ear and head position can completely change the look. Malamutes use their ears more than vocalization to communicate so expression will naturally change with ear position. I post this mostly as reassurance for myself to be patient, but also for those newer to the breed as you look at puppies don't overlook the mature dogs in those lines as they are your best window to the future.

Kenai is now 8y old and finally mature, but his head did not stop broadening until he was 6y.

These photos are in chronological order to give a nice study of head development and maturity. Also gives some idea of how ear and head position can completely change the look. Malamutes use body language/ear position more than vocalization to communicate so expression and appearance of eye shape will naturally change with ear/head position.

Dates/ages are estimated in captions, for some reason FB will not let me caption today's photos. Last few are from today, for size reference the sunflowers above his head are wider than my palm and my kennel sign is 30" wide.

Kenai was born April 2018 and is a 26" 95 # true black and white boy.

Patience is a virtue!
