Stella came back for additional training after going home for a few days (which was planned).

It benefited her immensely to go home and have her very awesome committed owners to live with her like I do and be consistent with rules, structure and boundaries.

Stella is 10 months old and a lot of dog. Getting her to relax and do nothing was an ongoing challenge. Her level of distraction and being inattentive to the human made simple tasks like pottying a challenge, let alone walking nicely on leash which prevented them from taking her anywhere or being able to really enjoy her.

The next couple of weeks we will refine her foundational obedience and her mindset when she’s out and about. Stella’s world is going to be so much better and so are the lives of her family.

This makes it all worth it. Dog trainers help dogs but we help PEOPLE more. We help them understand their role in the relationship with their dog. Getting real results cannot happen if the owners either don’t understand (and that’s the dog trainer’s job) or won’t make the changes of how to live and communicate with their dog.

If you hire a dog trainer and they say I love dogs better than people - run ! Because at the end of the day, we are coaching and helping our clients (humans) achieve real results with THEIR Dog.

Dogs don’t lie ! And dogs know who to believe - be the person they believe, trust, respect and look to for leadership

Stella’s first visit to Starbucks. Her job is to stay in a down, be calm and stay under the radar. Stella has come a long way. This wouldn’t have been possible a few weeks ago. Good girl Stella 💥💥

Sadie came to me for a board and train back in June. She’d become territorial in the home — growling at visitors and friends, with attempted bites. At 90+ pounds and a mix of livestock guardian dog (Maremma Sheepdog and Great Pyrenees), genetics play a real role here. This isn’t a “bad dog” problem, it’s a “this is what she was bred to do” problem.

Her owners are social people, and it was non-negotiable that Sadie needed to handle guests in the home — ideally even enjoy hanging out with them. She’s a genuinely chill dog at heart.

Two months later, she’s thriving. But the real shift wasn’t about changing Sadie — it was about her owners changing their relationship with her. They stepped up as strong, clear leaders, and that gave Sadie the safety, trust, and clarity she needed. Guests follow a few simple rules, and her owners make sure everyone understands them before they walk in the door. Sadie gets to be social on her terms — she has the space and the choice to interact, instead of being pressured into it.

It’s incredibly rewarding to watch her live her best life with owners who are committed to giving her the very best — owners who understand what their dog actually needs, not what their own emotions want, and not what other people expect from her. It’s about meeting Sadie where she is, because that’s what makes everything work. 🐾

4 dogs learning to relax and be calm around each other. The fed ex guy parked at the end of the driveway for some reason (normally they pull right up ) - the dogs remained calm.

Just because people come on the property - whether dogs become territorial, scared, defensive, excited etc doesn’t mean we have to allow it. The calm dogs also help the reactive ones to just relax.

Stella 🖤 learned (and liked ) getting into the ruffland kennel in the car. Now she can go more places with me. Good job girl 🖤🥰

Unfortunately this is the norm. Dogs that fight being handled. Many dog owners either don’t prepare the dog to be handled (vet, groomer, everyday tasks such as nail clipping, putting on collars etc) or won’t do it because “the dog doesn’t like it”. This is an essential part of training no matter how old the dog is.

Of course it’s much easier to start with a puppy (although most don’t ). If you hire a trainer and they don’t have handling as part of their foundation work, find a trainer that does!

PS most dogs don’t like some part of handling - and making excuses doesn’t help the dog. Need help? Contact me !
