Out with old stove! Two years was a good run and now it’s time to build a new stove with all that I’ve learned.

Today’s blessings:
15lbs of peaches.
4.4lb personal yellow watermelon.
1/2lb of cherry tomatoes
1/2lb of small plum tomatoes
1.2lb slicing tomato
3.1lbs large plum tomatoes
0.07lb pepper
2.2lbs of cucumbers
Roughly 26-27lbs of produce on a fraction of this little acre lot backyard.

This time of year gets super busy with different fruits and veggies being harvested and preserved. As important as that is, it’s also important to take a moment to marvel at what the hand of God has made.

Also, I’m not sure who needs to hear this but take time daily to do something with just your spouse. Yes your children are important but one day they’ll be grown up and moved out of the house and you’ll be left with the one you married. Don’t wait until then to spend quality time together.

We have 10.4 POUNDS of garlic scapes all harvested, rinsed, sealed, and ready to go!

Each bag is a half pound and is $6 and were harvested on 6/11/2025. They do keep well in the freezer (which is where they currently are). Let us know how many you want.

We have all heard about the avian flu and how it is affecting chickens and eggs. I urge you to read this article; it will be worth your time. Bird flu isn't wiping out chickens...the government is.

I have been saying almost all of this for a while but I understand wanting to hear it from someone with more credentials than I. Joel is that someone and I will gladly drive to Virginia to support him if it comes to what he writes about.

With many thousands of pastured chickens immersed in a wildlife-friendly ecology, we're watching this global issue. Here's our stance and plans for weathering this storm.

1. One acre of land that produces items that are sugary, such as maple syrup and honey.
2. One acre of land that is pleasing.

Example: This acre has chickens, honeybees, a garden, and maple trees? That is pretty sweet!

It’s so satisfying to see our namesake both bottled up and ready to be enjoyed. A lot of time has gone into designing, harvesting, finishing, and bottling Maple Syrup and Raw Honey. Always good to see the garlic popping up after a cold winter. This year, our crop will be turned exclusively into jarred minced garlic (aside from what is needed to replant).

That is a wrap on Maple syrup season here in southern Pennsylvania! The Lord blessed us with a 42 day season, 210 gallons of sap, and 4 gallons of syrup. But this isn't the end of sugar for us, because pictured is just one of several jars of raw honey from our bees that will be coming soon (in smaller 1 lb bottles). The blessings on this one acre just keep on coming!

So which natural sugar do you grab first? Maple syrup or honey?

Yesterday was a sad day: after several weeks of no signs of life from our hive, we made the decision to open the hive. This in itself was a difficult decision because even with the temperatures being in the mid-50s, opening them up too early can kill them. We did all the tests and checks that we could and determined it was time and what we found was a dead colony. They had made it through most of the bitter cold but just couldn’t hold on anymore.

We are so thankful to have had them and they were a great “starter” colony for us. We learned so much in the last nine months and we look forward to the next colony. This is a set back but not the end: “…The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD” (Job 1:21). They weren’t our bees but His and we are thankful that we were given the opportunity to take care of them.
